Just to clarify:  “extravagance” doesn’t have to mean something that costs an awful lot of money.

It’s something that you spend more on than others might.

Thanks for clarifying.  It's rubbers for me.  I like to buy this brand called Stealth Condoms.  Their motto is "they'll never see you coming!"

With that ^^^^^ said, my new list.

    Guns.
    Tractors.
    Shaving soap.

The clarification jogged my thinking. This past summer I picked up a 22 cm Italian marble mortar and olive wood pestle. I use it very regulary to make pesto and aioli and such. Compelely unnecessary, but I love the thing.

  • We also have an excessive supply of Radko Christmas ornaments, but it pales in comparison to the horse business (is it?) extravagance. My favorite Radko ornaments are the little green pickles - we play "hide the pickle" each year with interesting results...

I have spent more $$ on things- Houses, Cars, SWMBO Ring, College Tuition and Vacations.  But all those had other people involved.

This however was the most money I ever spent on myself- and in the 14 months Ive owned it its cost me almost another grand fixing the sh!t I keep breaking.

And as soon as my (Bike) Dealer gets one back in stock I will be buying a Gravel Bike that costs even more.  Cant believe I got SWMBO permission for this one.

Ha, I know what you mean minus the breaking stuff part. I have ~15k worth of bikes in my garage right now but totally worth it.

My main rig is almost all pla$tic. 28lbs with 160mm/150mm f/r travel. I want to build a new one but everything is backed up in the industry because of the covid surge.

Even my little dude’s bike was $500 but it’s feather light with a belt drive instead of a chain.

    Travel.
Spent wayyyy too much on travel, but it has been worth every penny to me. Experiences will win over something material for me every time.

After putting myself through college and getting commissioned as a 2Lt, I took $500 in cash out just to know what it felt like to have that much money in my pocket.  Went to the mall and bought two pairs of jeans and a couple golf polos.  Then, went to the grocery store and bought name-brand boxed cereal...not the stuff in a bag. I am 100% serious when I say that I felt like a king.

Far from an extravagance, given my current status, but that’s a solid memory.
I didn't fully put myself thru college (4-yr ROTC scholarship over 5 years, and Dad paid for most of my room & board) but I do remember that first cash payment as a Shiny AF Butterbar, very well.
I bought some nice groceries too, but the rest went to a much-needed car repair.

Beautiful pan, for sure. What is it? I got a Finex with lid a few years back and while it was pricey, I get a thrill when I use it (as I did tonight).
