I have seen reports of it leaving and going back out and reforming into another hurricane.
Yep.  Some folks here in NOLA are a bit worried it'll mosey on down to us where we have hobbled pumps.  People are actually sandbagging here.

@20stonespice and I snuck up to CO a couple of days ago to put hands on the spawn (who were gathering for the eclipse).  It looks like getting home Sunday is unlikely.  Now I just hope the power stays on so we don't lose our meat collection... a high class problem, for sure.

I did however, find a new bit of stainless steel to house the curing chamber, should the meat survive.

Never thought I'd say "hope your meat stays dry".  And cool (you should have cured it!).  But I just did. ;)

  • @nolaegghead I live in west Texas where we are just on the edge of not getting anything from Harvey.  I have a lot of friends and family down in Houston. Plus a step daughter who decided to ride it out in her ground floor apartment in Houston. Really wished she would have come here.  This has a earily similar feeling of Katrina.  Ugh. Just need this storm to blow out.

Hope she does well.  I agree, needs to go away.

Most of my immediate family are in central TX.  Extended family like cousins and friends in Houston.  My firm has a facility in Webster.

That and it may impact us makes me watch this closely.  I've gone through more than a few hurricanes and tropical storms.  After Katrina, this kind of thing gives me some resurgent PTSD.

We're curing some of it.  The prosciutto, copa and salamis would likely survive a couple of days, though escalating temps in an outage wouldn't be ideal. We do, however, have a bunch of frozen stuff, too.  I'd be curious how long it would stay frozen in an outage, given how cold it is now (-10F) and how well insulated the box is.

Pretty nice looking eye on Harvey -right as it crosses onto the shoreline.

Nola told me that he would come to your house, kick in the garage door, rescue your prosciutto, and assorted cured and dried meats and disappear in to the night. Because he knows where your house is, and where the cave is, and yeah...Nola said that. If anyone kicks in your garage door, it is important to know that is was Nola.

I am keeping track of when/if the power goes out, but that's it.  This is a useful tracker of outages in the Houston area.

Right now it looks like Bellaire and Pearland have power issues. I hope @caliking is still in good shape.  Certainly, he can't be out of lump yet.

Total troof!  Although John told me he would cover gas and buy all the stuff I "rescued" for $2.50/lb.

All light comments aside, I am too.  It is tough to watch this from afar while we have family and friends in the path.

Power outages are on the east side of P'land, so we're good for now. More outages expected by Sat night though.

But the lump is still dry.

Hope y'all's power stays on, this is gonna be a long storm.

I'm certain they'll be selling plenty of stand-by generators in the months to come.  We installed ours (whole house natural gas) after Katrina and it's kept us air-conditioned and comfortable over a number of outages.  One was over a week.

Weather Channel is broadcasting less than a mile from @20stone house. That is not a good sign. When Jim Catore asks if he can broadcast from your porch, time to get out.
