Big Green Egg vs Taco Bell

SGH
SGH Posts: 28,988
On a whim my wife brought home some Taco Bell. I already had the egg burning down some oak and sassafras for tonight's cook so I thought why not. First the prep. Thought I would keep it simple so I just removed the wrapper. Nothing added just oak and sassafras for smoke. For the cook I went indirect with the plate setter and Woo at 225 for 30 minutes to a internal temp of 135 on the Thermapen and then pulled and plated. I let it rest for 15 minutes and then served. Conclusion. Not even the BGE can make Taco Bell food taste good. The oak and sassafras improved the taste just a little but over all it was still awful in my humble opinion. Next time I may try raised direct at 400 just to see. The plated shots are for my friend @DMW. Hope y'all enjoy.imageimageimageimageimage

Nice try @SGH, but they're simply not very edible.  The trick is to soak 'em in that weird vinegar hot sauce in the little packets.  You need about a 1:2 ratio sauce to semi-edible taco or burrito.  Make sure you have plenty of toilet paper prior to consumption - nothing worse than driving to the convenience store while trying to hold back an inevitable butt-splosion.

Thank you for the kind words my friend. You got two things absolutely correct. It is uneatable and a man needs a unlimited supply of toilet paper on hand if he does manage to choke it down! :D

Before my boys grew up and moved away, they would occasionally ask to stop at taco bell. I agreed from time to time, but I wouldn't let them get in the car with that vile smelling stuff!! Last time I did, the car smelled like a sewer! For a LONG time!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I honestly did hit them with some oak and sassafras smoke. Hey it couldn't do anything but help!

If nothing else, creative. Warming up Taco Bell with some smoke! Too bad that couldn't save it...

(when Taco Bell came to South Dakota in 1975 or so, and they cooked with palm oil and layered on the cheese finger-deep (as opposed to the "subtle decoration" of today) I ate there VERY often; loved the "thing in the pan" as my Dad called it, the Enchirito).

SGH .... Probably the best advice would be to thank your beautiful wife for the kind, thoughtful & generous attempt. Never say it was awful. Say it was OK & Thank you.
Then gather your mind, (you have a sharp mind) & come up with a better soft shell taco.

Thank y'all for the kind words my friends. I don't think there is any hope at all for their stuff. I had honestly about forgot how bad fast food really was.

I did thank her. It's one of those things where it's the thought that counts. Nonetheless they were awful just the same. You know something is bad when sassafras will not over take the taste profile!!

Thank you brother. I honestly hate fast food that bad. I thought a good shot of sassafras smoke may make it enjoyable. This is one time that I was without question or doubt incorrect!!
