My grandmother had one! All the grill would do is keep the blades off the ground if it fell over. They were sweet metal blades too.GrateEggspectations said:

Growing up, my now-deceased grandmother had a fan that featured a grill with spaces so wide you could literally get two or three fingers in between there. It looked stunning though.

Looks cool without grills and not running. However, when it's in action as in last pic, even at medium speed you can't see the turbines. It's light weight, quiet and powerful, that's why I can't let go of it.kl8ton said:

My late M-I-L had a fan just like that. We found out the hard way when she was babysitting our oldest kidGrateEggspectations said:

Painting my daughter’s bedroom ceiling and walls. Prepping for wallpaper to be installed by the wife. Watching football and was watching the Presidents cup simultaneously, Sorry you Canadians on the forum.

I agree Botch. Every place that I have ever lived post university has had wall paper , including currently, has had wallpaper. In every case it started to peel. What's wrong with painting?
-
Fellas, my wife is an interior designer. I gave up a long time ago. Use quality wallpaper and removing it ain’t bad at all. Score it, spray with 50/50 water and liquid fabric softener. Wide putty knife.Botch said:Gulfcoastguy said:I agree Botch. Every place that I have ever lived post university has had wall paper , including currently, has had wallpaper. Fabric softener is a godsend. Removed older heavy wallpaper. Took an evening to remove and another evening to remove rest of glue and skim coat with mud. Really not bad.ColbyLang said:

Thanks again for the idea, I finally did it after visiting ewetube. Used central vacuum PVC, lighter and cheaper than ABS...zaphod said:I use something like that which I built from 2" abs pipe with an adapter for my 60 l (16 gal) shopvac. sucks the crap right out of the gutters as I stand safe on the ground. When I was younger I would take the shopvac up on the roof with me. Took the wheels off it, but still dropped it over the edge of a 2 story house once. cracked the housing, but still works 20 years later.
murphy's law struck twice... 1) the roofer left too much shingles protruding over the gutter, had to flatten the nozzle to squeeze in, damn

2) The ancient shopvac's on/off switch died, had to bypass it and use a smart outlet as switch...
Not bad in spite of the constricted nozzle, even sucked up a broken piece of shingle...

awesome! rock and roll that thing. before I did this I took the vacuum onto the roof (sans wheels) for gutter cleaning. the crack to the left is from when it fell off one year.Canugghead said:

We must say that we liked the prospect of being able to grow old in the home. The only potential obstacle is that we have a sunken living room. It’s only two steps down and we love the additional space it creates in the room, but it would pose a challenge were one of us to require a wheelchair. I suppose ramps could be added, but not as convenient as a single plane.Canugghead said:@GrateEggspectations been thinking of moving to a bungalow as we get older ... no stairs to climb inside and no fear of climbing the roof, lol. Wish we have decent selection of bungalows in our neighbourhood like yours.Come on up! Ottawa ain’t that bad. 😉
i believe mr brady from the brady bunch designed the camp. half the living room, a bedroom, and the bath tub are sunken. running thru the house to get a sick dog outside and tripping over those streps is a bit problematic in the dark, stepping down into a wet slippery tub though is insane

Nerd stats on the trip to Nebraska (proving one could do a quick weekend trip to Nebraska driving from AZ).
2483 miles
203 gallons diesel
5.5 gallons of DEF
40 hrs and 10 minutes of driving
Total elapsed trip time, just shy of 45 hrs.
Doing the math, that is an average speed of 62 mphI would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
