When i started selling Toyota the pickups were $1100 and the Corolla was $1200. No ac, no radio, 4 Speed, and no rear bumper on the pu.
My first, a '70 Ford Maverick, had no A/C, 3-speed, no glove-box (it did have a short shelf right in front of the right vent).  It did have a radio, 5 mechanical pushbuttons for AM.

  • My first was a 1964 Ford pickup. It had a 292 V 8 , no power steering, no seatbelts, a steel dash, the leaky gas tank was directly behind the seat, the bed had been reinforced with a lime green sheet of plywood. It was white(ish) and if I went to a fast food place people threw their garbage in the back.

I did have an MGB in my possession for a few hours when I was in high school.  That's a long story and I'm not sure when the statute of limitations ends. =)

Best way to minimize breakdowns is to minimize the duration of ownership.

I always wanted a Midget.  The car, I mean.  Or a Mini Cooper (again, the car, not a diminutive maker of casks).

I have a pretty good soldering iron...I might just pull the trigger.

Have $ down on a Rivian pick up truck. We are usually brand loyal and have resisted buying a car when it’s a first year of a new model. Typically keep vehicles 5-7 years.

@dbCooper - thanks for that video.  Great family story and quite the car right there!

  • I’m 40 and I’ve only owned 2 trucks in my lifetime. My wife has been through a few more than that but we tend to keep vehicles for a long time because I despise the buying/selling process
  • I've never purchased a new vehicle. The closest to that had 35K miles. I'm fairly set on FCA and Jeep. I have a 2015 Ram 1500 ecodielsel that I love. I average 21 mpg and usually get 24 on the highway. 70-80mph highway speeds. My wife's 2014 Ford Escape has required a lot of maintenance work and recalls, one major repair to the steering column that wasn't a recall which really upset me. The repair cost about 20% of the cars value.

I also have a 2002 Jeep TJ (wrangler) with the 4.0 straight 6 and 5spd manual transmission that I adore. Not many around these days in stock form without rust and mileage around 100K on a motor that will easily do 300K before a rebuild. I plan to take my Ram to the 300K mark as well.

I didn't flag you.  However, @CPFC1905, you should know that a good friend of mine who is a black dwarf considers the "m" word at least as offensive as the "n" word.

I was surprised to learn this.  However, "little person" or "dwarf" (when medically appropriate) is preferred.  (It is possible to be very short without having any medical/genetic condition.)

First truck was a GMC...but it was terrible. Next was a Ford..did me good for 175k (both of them used) Next was another GMC ..good price but made up for it with repairs ....ex gf had a GMC it was a total rotten lemon

I currently have a Dodge 2500 and a taco ..I would definitely purchase another model of each . .

It would be a very very tough sell for me to acquire another GM product
