@Ozzie_Isaac and @Legume, it’s unbelievable how quickly it traps heat and how light it is. I also own a 20 degree from them. Weighs less than a pound. I promise you, when you’re ready to climb in at the end of the day they are like a warm hug.

Haha it will never not be funny that the clown who ran away like a frightened child from the same mob he cheered on has written a book about the virtues of masculinity.

My Dad (retired) is looking to buy a basic vehicle he can use to haul stuff around with. He was set on trying to find a Ford Transit. (Puke) I finally convinced him to look for a basic truck. He put an offer on the most basic 2wd Toyota Tacoma they make. I told him to hold off and let me do a little research.

I can't believe how far Ford Rangers have come. (My last two vehicles have been Ford Rangers) They now average between 21-26 MPG with a 10 speed transmission. They tow nearly 8K pounds. (Which I read is rated for over 9K pounds towing in Australia but they limit it here in the US.) All with the 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine. (A proven engine so far for reliability) Not even 10 years ago a big full size truck was hardly pulling 8K pounds. I'm pretty dang impressed with new Rangers without knowing too much about them. Now trying to find a basic extended cab Ranger with a 6' box is another thing.

A good friend of mine has had 2 new Rangers.   He traded the first in for the 2nd that has the Tremor package.   They really have come a long way!

I would like to drive one with 8,000 lbs behind it. Usually harry homeowner will pull around 3,500lb max so it should handle that no sweat. Does the 2wd ranger haul that?  Toyota has undeniably reliable but they are getting dusted by Ford with their turbo engines and updated slush boxes and tech packages.

This was free.  1/4 steel.  No door for cooking chamber
Feels like you put this in the wrong thread, since no money changed hands.  Unless you paid for it in sexual favors, of course.

Well he did say “finger for scale”.   Maybe he fat-fingered the word sale?

@nolaegghead - great score right there.  You can extract a fair amount of $$ just for the steel if you go that route.  And you thought the XL was a challenge to hide.
This one has a "shop only" title.

I was shocked to see that they can tow around 8K pounds. I've probably watched a half dozen tow videos on the Ranger and it was pretty impressive. One guy was towing around a utility tractor and trailer and he went to a scale and weighed it. It was few hundred pounds shy of 9k pounds. No problems towing it. What I've read is the 7K+ towing capability is on the low end of what it can actually tow. It's the same truck in Australia and they claim 9K pounds. The only real negative is the shorter wheelbase of the truck when towing.

My Dad has a utility tractor that weighs around 3200 pounds. I don't think the Ranger would see much more than 5k pounds with a trailer and that would maybe be once a year.

It's pretty hard to find something with an extended cab and a 6' box. Most have the crew cab with a 5' box. Less technology the better for my Dad. He wants something basic that can haul crap around. I don't think it would see more than 3K miles a year. Creature comforts aren't really necessary for how little it will be driven.

I dropped it here for now.  It’s a low priority project

I was driving back to the shop from Harbor Freight when I saw my neighbor pulling this thing with a truck.  I parked, walked around the corner and asked if they needed a hand, told them I had a forklift.  Turns out they were just trying to get rid of it.  Asked if I wanted, said sure, then drove the forklift over and grabbed it.

Nice!  Fixing something instead of replacing it is such a wonderful feel good win!

That would look perfect in the side yard parked next to the bass boat.

It does look pretty bad.  My rusty free smoker on my rusty $700 trailer.

I try not to be “that” guy and keep my place cleaned up.  Good thing I’m in a commercial zone.

the city gave me tons of grief when I was helping @nolabrew out on a solar system for his RV.
