  • If you are not getting the mileage out of your tires you probably do either drive like **** (fish) or have an alignment issue.
Rams have a known issue with heavy loads and their front suspension geometry.  Apparently the fronts unload enough to negatively impact wear.  I am not the only one.  Apparently, with airbags you can correct it.  Just meeting factory specs isn't sufficient, and they way they are designed not everything upfront is adjustable.
I bet the cg on my ram is two feet from the front tires. How many miles on your ram?

@fishlessman I bet that Rover is heavy on tires

just got over 70k on an inexpensive set of kumhos. still lots of tread but the tire rot in 4 years was insane. put michilin defenders ltx m/s on this fall. these are alot more grippy

We have always had Michelin on our LR3 but this last go round we went with Firestone and only got 30K. We are in the process of getting Michelins fitted again

I've always enjoyed the Cooper tires on all my trucks.   Never had a mileage issue.

  • I just changed the oil on my 4 runner for the first time. what a pain in the ass. skid plate, fairing, oil plug cover, canister filter that I had to go back to town to get a socket for, canister drain tool I don't have, made a huge mess. Boy.

  • I changed the steering linkage and pitman on my 06 3500 with a 08 updated version.  Apparently it was all so wore out that my dad drove it and started laughing at the slop. I am used to herding vehicles down the road.

I've been running the Discoverer RTX and with routine rotation get 60-70k miles and, to your point, the older versions were noisy but the newer ones don't seem to be noticeable.

I did only get 45k miles from the original michelins that came with the truck---no thanks.

Mine is a 2018 (33kmiles) and fronts wear super fast.  I rotated them twice, but still need to replace them very soon.  Hence my comment about lucky to get 35k.

My buddies is a 2012 and he is lucky to get 15k out of the fronts on his dually.  He has had multiple alignments, inspections, and services.  Nothing helped.  His next step is airbags.  Everything is in spec, on the edges, but in spec.

Fwiw, the Michelins that came on my truck as original equipment didn't last long and the guy at discount tire confirmed that model was mostly sold to automakers for new trucks (can't recall the model, one of the primacy's I think). I swapped them before they were worn out because I needed something with better traction on snow and dirt and went with Bridgestones.  In the past with other trucks I have been very happy with Michelin defender LTX M/S - great traction and treadlife.
    Love you bro!

Towing accelerates tire wear.  Even in the front.  The front will unload because of the tongue weight.

Even with goosenecks it seems to increase wear.  The front definitely unloads, but on the Rams they seem way worse at tire wear than HD Fords or Chevys.  Airbags seem to help the Rams.

I do love the unloaded ride of coil springs in the rear of Ram 3/4 tons.

Have heard they don't drive as nice with the airbags, might want to try one first. The Harley place across from me takes big trailers full of Harleys from Boston to Sturgis every year. They instal and remove for the trip

100mph, toss in reverse and hit the gas, studded lasts longer and makes a better show. Old darts were indestructible.

@fishlessman - This was a thing back when I was in my teens.  I witnessed multiple people that thought it was a good idea.  Process was to shift to neutral, lock the brakes, shift to reverse, release brakes and floor it.  Cars from the 60's and 70's.  Maybe 50/50 your tranny would survive.  Chevy Powerglides seemed to not mind at all.

Probably a lost art when front wheel drive became prevalent.

Never did the neutral thing. Drop back and punch it to brake traction. Quarter mile reverse rollbacks. Studs put on a fire show late at night

I shifted from 4th to 1st in a 96 Dakota.  Little 4 cylinder pegged the tach.  We all lived, including the truck.

Young and dumb...I shifted buddies 86 escort into park while on freeway. Was shooting for neutral. Lots of loud clicking. Seemed fine after.

Over revving from missing a high gear and hitting a low gear (downshift when trying to upshift) is the bane of older BMW M3s.

My friends girlfriend at the time tried to put his Civic into park doing about 50mph. Transmission wasn't happy and mad a bunch of noise but not enough to kill it.

Gotta admit this thread took a left turn or I missed the ramp!
Trying to get back to somewhere close to the basic thread, I recently bought a four tire set ( the four buy at once is painful and does not often happen) with a staggered wheel set up.  Best number is 23K on the fronts and two sets of rears to get there.  All aligned and Michelins (as they were),  now going to the all seasons (harder compound) as I can't take advantage of the summer tires.  (Too old!).

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
