Sous vide boys...is Anova still the go to?

I have the next two months off work - time to dive back into cooking. Fell off the culinary wagon for awhile and finally got the drive back.

Also ordering a KBQ once it warms up a bit, but that'll be a different thread.
I have a joule and an Anova.

Joule, app is pretty good, convenient size, and prefer the circulation method.  Don't like the need for the app.  No display or way to adjustable temp without.

The anova is easy to take apart and clean, love the digital display and temp adjustment on the unit.  Never figured out remote monitoring.  Don't like the size, the little circulation motor can contact the case if you don't align it just right.  Some internal plastic is starting to break off after about 7 years of use.

Both work great and hard to pick a favorite.  Both have flaws too.

@GlennM please let us know if you are happy with it when you get it!
So far it been a blast.  The detail is amazing and it’s fairly quick. I make cutting boards, some simple furniture, band saw boxes, etc. it’s fun to be able to add graphics etc

Very impressive!  I am still trying to figure out the method used to create the that one.....

Its the same as the others, you cut the back off, then cut out the drawer. Glue the back on, cut the front and back off the drawer, hollow out the drawer and then glue the front and back on the drawer All done with a bandsaw

Purchased a USB microscope for inspecting knife edges while I sharpen.  It came with some accessories I was not expecting.

    @FrostyEgg

I'm not sure how often you get over to Green Bay area but I saw a KBQ come up for sale. I want to say it was under $700 for it.

Man that's a solid deal! My inlaws live on the east side of Wisconsin but unfortunately we won't be out that way for awhile. New baby is due on the 4th!

Those are great gifts for people that you know have the cheap supermarket meat therms in their kitchens or kids starting to cook more than mac and cheese.  I've given away a bunch of them.

When I was a shiny new Lieutenant I bought a Kitchenaid blender, food processor, and mixer.  Expensive, but I thought they'd last my lifetime.  The blender didn't; I already had to replace the coupling gear between the base and the jar a couple years ago, and now the membrane switch panel died.  I searched the Kitchenaid, eBay, and other websites for a new switch panel, but no one's supporting a 38-year-old blender anymore, I guess.
I really, really  wanted to get a Vitamix to replace it, but even the model with the "short" jar won't fit under my cupboard (I only have 16" clearance).  I know from a recent blender thread on this forum that the Blendtec was also very popular here, but after looking into them, not for me (suction cup feet, vibration so bad the EweTubers had to hold it down with their fingers, and the much-hated membrane switches).  In their latest "high-end" blender shootout  America's Test Kitchen  actually gave the blendtec a "Not Recommended" rating (!!!)
The above KitchenAid got pretty good ratings from what I've looked up; it fits on my counter, matches my other gear, no membrane switches, and runs smoothly (no vibration in use).  One big difference from my old KitchenAid: the blades are sharp, rather than blunt, and  they're built into the jar, I'll have to get used to washing it out by adding hot water and a drop of soap, and running it, rather than disassembling it to wash in the sink.  Sixes.
KitchenAid also sells a small 6-oz jar/blade to do small things like spices/dressings/etc, which I'll be ordering.  My college-timeperiod Oster had that feature, and I really liked it.

So ... I bought a "pallet" from Amazon Wholesale Pallet ... apparently they getting rid of overstocked amazon stuff ... $40, so I took a chance, had some fun ... knew it would be some kind of scam.

The pallet was a bit bigger than a shoe box, lol. Contained wireless blue tooth noise cancelling headphones ... retail around $65.  That is by far the strangest definition of a pallet to me. LOL.
