Just unboxing a fun little delivery.

@GrateEggspectations- you definitely like it hot!  Curious as to how long that supply will last until a restock order?
BTW- sweet looking peek at your cutting board.
I am just finishing my last bottle of Da’Bomb Beyond Insanity, gifted to me Christmas of 2020 along with an assortment of others sauces. Lasted me about a year, though it is used by me alone and I don’t use it every day. A little goes a long way. Have many other sauces in the rotation.

I’m curious to see how the Ground Zero compares. I threw it in the cart without even reading up. I’m a little surprised they would give it that name, given the potential negative connotations.

Thanks. Yes, I love that board. Got it on sale years ago at a local Costco. About 4” thick. My partner hates having it on the counter - especially because I am obsessive about its care and impose many strict rules (which she promptly ignores anyway).

Do you like the spice, Frank?

@GrateEggspectations - I do enjoy the heat but I find that as the laps of the sun accumulate I can't handle and appreciate it as much as I used to.
Unrelated- the same degrade has hit me with regard to dealing with cold weather.
I won't even get into any impact with regard to high speed driving.  The downhill slide is real and is enough to help one really enjoy a pour of fine bourbon.

@FarmingPhD: Nice. Not telling you anything you don’t know, but if you truly commit, you will get there. Evident as it is, I’ll mention that it’s much simpler to drop your caloric intake than to try to burn additional calories if strict weight loss is your goal. That being said, a mix of both will give you best results on a number of fronts.

Edit: I’m due for a little trimming myself and will be starting Monday. The pandemic has not been kind to my waistline. I hovered at about the same weight throughout, but my body composition has suffered.

Second day in a row of walking 3 miles outside. I did have to buy a new pair of shoes. Of course tomorrow it is supposed to be flooding. I’ll have to do something different then.

No scientific background or dietician skills here but to really cut to the core; there are "good and bad" calories (second order issue) but calories are the heat energy.
So, you either burn more calories or reduce the intake or some combination of both to drop the weight.   Once you hit your target then perhaps refine your quality of intake.
This from someone who used to use running as the way to enjoy food, bourbon and beer-the running has gone by the wayside, so where to adjust or not give a $****.  I have significantly moderated the food intake and it works.
The above could be a one page book-stay the course and achieve your objective.  You've got this if you want it!

I stopped drinking anything except water and bourbon, added in some exercise and reduced serving sizes and dropped 40lbs in 3months  My main issue was soda and way over eating.

Seeing your brisket cooks, Cap'n, I have trouble understanding how you do that.     ;)

I thoroughly enjoy the brisket cook , the challenges and "how did it measure up" and the initial results (independent of the aforementioned criteria) every time.  The complete hook for me is nailing the cook.  I will save some for the household but readily share with neighbors and the local off-spring every time.
If I did not use those outlets I could not remotely justify the cook but I would find other outlets to enable this hobby.  FWIW-

What's the best way to heat a 25qt 12" diameter stockpot indoors? My son's wrestling team is hosting a home tournament soon and I need to find a way to serve a lot of chili to coaches and staff.  I was hoping to avoid the crock-pot for vanity reasons...  a big stainless stock pot just looks so much cooler.

I figured an induction burner would work, but I can't find one on Amazon that's rated for the weight or diameter I need.  Those little butane burners look suspect. Propane burners all say "outdoor use only"...

Am I stuck using a crock pot?

Stainless stockpot with a portable induction burner.  Just because the pot is bigger doesn't mean it won't work, just stir more.  I use a very large stockpot for boiling potatoes with the induction burner.

Which one do you have? I  just ordered this one.

I was reading a lot of negative reviews on amazon from users with larger diameter pots. We'll see how it goes.

  • @GrateEggspectations @lousubcap  appreciate the encouragement.  I’ve just had my weight creep up on me the last 2 years, too much time at a desk versus what I used to do and played more sports before kids.  I’m at a point where I either go up a pants size, or I lose weight, I prefer the latter.  I’ll likely use it 3-5 times a week and will be continuing to eat in moderation which is what plateaued my gain for now.  I’m lucky it’s on my terms and not a command from a doctor.
  • When I was still working, and checking on my contractors daily (100-200 miles/day), my weight hovered around 220.  After retiring, I maintain my weight around 200.  Don’t eat fast food anymore, and no soda or useless calories.  And try to play golf when weather permits.

Good luck sir.  I've done the intermittent fasting thing with success.  Just set yourself an eating window, say noon to 6. Can't ever eat outside of that window.  Most of my calories came after 8pm.

Just thought I should share this with you…
I clicked on 1-star review and the very first one that showed up says this:

"...I bought this to sear steak and other items outside on the patio to avoid smoking up the house and setting off the smoke detector. This cooktop is useless for that.

Because of the "overheat protection" it won't let the pan get hot enough to get a good sear.
It limits the pan heat to around 460 degrees. Then, since there is such a delay between the actual temperature of the pan and the heat sensor in the unit, once you place the meat in the pan, the pan's temperature will drop down to about 280 degree before the unit will begin to heat the pan up again. (I checked with an infrared thermometer) So it does not maintain a consistent heat..."

I experienced the same problem when I tried to sear with an oversized CI pan. The trapped heat triggered the overheat protection circuit and shut down the cooker.  I have a different brand so I think this safety feature is universal with portable induction cooktop.

🤣 Cheers Frank! I have one but have yet to crack it open. I hope it's everything Ozzie suggests. The little bottle is kinda cool huh? I've heard they have limited releases here in the states ( slightly higher proof?) but I've never seen it. Mine was acquired via the "soy sauce" method as well.  =)
