100% agree- there is almost a 0% chance they would put their company’s name and reputation at risk if it ever came out they delayed releasing info to influence a political election. Would likely be catastrophic long term and imagine the blowback from DOJ.

Superimposing skull emojis on the states where ICU beds are over capacity could also work.

I like the idea of keeping this thread apolitical. I agree with John and Fish, it's going to get bad before better. A dedicated way to exchange info would be a good thing for all of us.

Hard to inject a block of ice.  The only things liquid at -100F are gasses at room temperature.

As far as any conspiracy theories about the timing of the news release, they didn’t have to announce anything at all. It could be argued that announcing anything before the election would’ve been more suspect. No obligation to the public to announce anything, the full picture will come out when the trial is finished.

Did Trump get drug prices down? From over here, he was always complaining that we in the UK pay too little for our drugs from US big pharma, mainly because we buy centrally for the whole country via the NHS. Socialism in action.

It was already decided that it would go first to first responders. A little  bit of googling pulled up an article . Pfizer will have 50 million doses ready in 2020 and 650 million ready in ALL of 2021. Each person requires 2 doses. So if no other vaccines are approved there will still be shut downs this time next year.

Now who is a first responder? Are police first responders? Just some things to think about.

If they held off the announcement before election on purpose to stay apolitical, it doesn't help Trump or Biden in any way.  People already voted.

I'm not surprised that politics is being injected into the discussion.  My point is that it doesn't have to be, and that I'm not deliberately trying to make it political.  In fact it's just the opposite.  

I'm not sure what else I can do to demonstrate that other than try and be as neutral as possible in my responses here.  I'm doing the best I can.

We will just have to see how it rolls out. We can speculate all day but in the end it will be what it will be. Just glad to see some good news.

I should have added, I am glad to see a vaccine.  I miss being able to travel and gather for large events.  I also look forward to being able see my friends who are in at risk groups.  I am one who enjoys being alone, and I never realized how much I would miss being around friends.

Hopefully this vaccine pans out and is effective long term.

Honestly, I do not know the truth.  Our news is clouded with opinion pieces.  I believe he has impacted some drug prices, but to what extent I do not know.  Truth is very hard to find these days.

I have no doubt he said it, and it’s not well considered.  I believe his point has nothing to do w/Trump is bad beyond - rolling out anything at this scale is a massive undertaking of planning, logistics, collaboration, etc., to be effective.  Those adjectives do not reflect the Trump administrations efforts on COVID to date, so wasting opportunity with the first vaccine is major waste.  Of course, early is still early.

I disagree with Cuomo's comments.  60 minutes interviewed the guy in charge (4-star general) of the distribution problem and it looks like he and his group are doing a good job.   There's a very limited number of doses available for the first distribution cycle and they will go to high-risk and front line workers.
