at one larticular time today of the 30 plus threads listed, only about half were food shots.
This forum is so much more than food cooked on the egg. So much more.
    Hoping it stays like this.

Slow to the starting gate today but realized this thread was not where I expected it given all the bullets it has dodged.  Better to be sunk and accessible than nuked.
Anyhow-thanks @GATraveller for the link and read.

Ok serious question. For those of you on the more center to left side Of the scale. Does Kamala Harris concern you? Cause reality is Biden is just teeing her up to take over after he serves 1 term at most. I can honestly say I very likely won’t be voting for Trump this year and will write in someone else because I just can’t stand hearing him anymore but a Harris Presidency terrifies the ever luvin crap outta me. She’s seriously a nutbag

Lots of things but for example the idea that we should spend 10 trillion dollars to combat climate change seems extremely excessive and puts our already outrageous national debt in an even more precarious situation. I also don’t like her views on gun control. I also disagree with several aspects of Medicare for all which she seems to favor or at least a modified version of it. We no doubt need to fix tons of broken problems within our healthcare system but making it 100% government ran won’t end well. Also the idea that we should give people reparations is ridiculous. As is abolishing the electoral college. There are a few more but you get the idea

    I'll play...

“10 trillion dollars to combat climate change seems extremely excessive”

That’s 10Trill over the next 25 years. 400Billion per year seems doable as that’s about 10% of our current annual budget.

Either the changing climate is a serious problem we should:

A - deal with sooner rather than later

    OR,

B - pay the consequences at a likely much higher cost more decades from now

    “her views on gun control”

Her views don’t seem too radical (to me anyway):

→Revoke the licenses of gun manufacturers & dealers that break the law

→Require anyone who sells more than 5 guns/yr to run a background check on all gun sales

→Ban the importation of AR-15-style assault weapons

I’m not going to list everything she may have said about gun control so maybe I missed something really way out of the mainstream.

    “Medicare for all… ”

    From Vox:

“Unlike Sanders’s, Harris’s plan would include a substantive role for private insurers, which would still be able to offer plans under a tightly regulated system, similar to the way that private insurers currently do through Medicare Advantage. Additionally, it would transition Americans from the existing system to Medicare-for-all in ten years, instead of four. And finally, it would use a slightly different payment mechanism: Harris backs several of the methods Sanders has suggested, including higher capital gains taxes, but would only impose taxes on households making $100,000 or more. Sanders’s plan, meanwhile, would impose taxes on households making $29,000 or more.

Experts say that Harris’s approach enables her to continue supporting universal coverage — a major priority for progressives — while also making the plan a bit more politically palatable to folks who are concerned by how disruptive it could be. With a longer transition period and an ongoing role for private insurers, it means more time for people to adjust and the appearance of greater choice.

“At the end of the ten-year transition, every American will be a part of this new Medicare system,” Harris writes in a Medium post. “They will get insurance either through the new public Medicare plan or a Medicare plan offered by a private insurer within that system.””

    From The Hill:

“All of the studies, regardless of ideological orientation, showed that long-term cost savings were likely. Even the Mercatus Center, a right-wing think tank, recently found about $2 trillion in net savings over 10 years from a single-payer Medicare for All system. Most importantly, everyone in America would have high-quality health care coverage.”

    ———

Who knows if any Medicare for all approach will get traction in the US. The alternative I guess is to stick with the crappy, wasteful, unfair systems we have in place now.

“… give people reparations is ridiculous”

Really? It’s not without precedent and certainly one can argue justification. I’ll let Seth make the case:

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/sethcohen/2020/06/21/its-finally-time-to-pay-black-americans-reparations/#4909e4175cb5

Like everything tho, the devil is in the details as to how/what/how much.

Understandably there will be folks who reject the idea completely.

Funny thing is tho, I’d bet those same folks would be screaming if the government (federal/state/local) took some of their property via eminent domain and didn’t pay them a nickel.

    “abolishing the electoral college”

Good idea! However, I guess this depends on which interpretation of history you choose to believe which led to the creation of the electoral college. The EC was not intended to keep smaller states “relevant” - it never has and never will (the Senate was designed with the intent to give small states a chance to "punch above their weight"). When was the last presidential candidate that actually physically spent time in every state of the union? Candidates, in general,  only visit states they think they need.

Back in the 1960’s clear majorities of both major parties supported eliminating the electoral college so it’s not as if the idea has always been a matter of extreme partisanship the way it is now. Republicans now love the EC cuz they know without it Trumpy would have remained the sideshow clown that he is.

I guarantee one thing - as more formerly reliable red states turn into blue/purple states it’s inevitable that you’ll start hearing more GOP’ers wanting to eliminate the EC.

VP takes over if the Pres can’t continue.  In the absence of that, we have elections.  I would imagine 4 years from now will have a pretty open field once again, not an anointing as is the case with a sitting pres running for re-election.

    Pence scares me more, btw.
    Love you bro!
