I hear ya but when this thing came out they said over 4% of the people who catch it are going to die.  I’m glad to hear that may be way off.
1% would be ten times more lethal than the flu.  That’s plenty deadly.

What would flu mortality be without vaccines?

It will be interesting to see the antibody test results on large numbers to see a better estimate of the contagion and reevaluate the mortality. And if that number is a large amount of people who had it and recovered are now immune. The herd immunity with vaccines is preferable but it’s a ways off, if large numbers are now immune they could go back to work safely .
We’ll need reliable antibody tests at scale to pull this off.  I think that’s still very much a work in progress.
I love the disagree flag.  So, we won’t need reliable tests?  Or we won’t need lots of them?  Or they’re not still a work in progress?  I am a so confused by whomever seems to be so confused.

We have folks on here who believe heart disease is contagious.  I'm just saying...
I'm 90% sure that comment was meant in a "I'm at higher risk for heart disease because I hang out with people that eat too much and drink too much and especially eat a lot of smoked red meat" sort of way.

I think it just came up when you were in one of your "I have a need to insult someone's intelligence" spells...
Even that argument would have been SLIGHTLY defensible.

    But it wasn't so...

  • April 20 - Here in Michigan, it’s defies the governor’s stay at home executive order to buy paint, seed, garden supplies and a host of other things she deems as not essential.  Due to the mild winter, the mow & snow companies are chomping at the bit to go to work landscaping.  The governor said it’s too dangerous.  She says the science backs her decision.  What science?

You’re right John.  You sitting hundreds of miles away have a better grasp of what can be bought here than I do.  I guess I can tear the tape I’ve seen barring the aisles containing the contraband items.  Thanks for the clarification John.  You da man!

Mortality rate doesn't really mean much, as it depends on how many cases are diagnosed to begin with, and we all know where that stands.

An antibody test is marginally helpful at best. If even that. The need of the hour is finding active/positive infections, and contact tracing to limit spread. But that takes $$ and resources. The cheaper way to do it (relatively speaking) is by having people stay home, and not mingle with others. But then the economy tanks.

And if you want an example of responsible federalism that actually has the well-being of the polity as a top priority... look no further than Germany.

Fred - the article says that only stores in excess of 50,000 square feet have to block off aisles devoted to non-essential items.

    Is that accurate?

If so, couldn't ya just go to say an Ace Hardware or someplace smaller than Home Depot.

Ace Hardwares are locally owned, nice time to support the little guys.

Always interesting to me when people who decry the fake news media express blatantly misleading or false information themselves and fail to see the hypocrisy.
The irony of the whole Ukraine mess is that it all started when Trump literally got fooled by fake news about Hunter Biden.

  • The Home Depot has the blocked aisles.  I haven’t been to the local ACE because of the reduced hours.  Folks here aren’t hellbent on defying social distancing.  They want to buy what they want.  They want the landscapers to stay in business.  They want to go fishing on their boats.  Why are canoes & kayaks allowable, but motorized boats are forbidden?  It’s stupid arbitrary crap like that which frosts people.

Well ... maybe they should try buying it at ACE.

Maybe, that is why Michigan is number 3 in deaths from Covid19 in the USA?

I have lost two lab techs in Michigan....Mt Clements.

Please tell me you are joking.

    This is beyond ridiculous.

Just saw where Cheeto MAGA, has suddenly decided to not allow immigration into the USA.

Like who the Fûck would want to come to the country that leads by 100's of thousands in infections, and tens of thousands of deaths in the global pandemic?

How important would this had been in December 2019?

Maybe they needed freaking seeds from Home Depot?

Things were bad here, but they have improved.  In the view of many, improved enough to allow a little opening up of the economy or at least to have discussions about when that happens.

The local hospital  is going to be the first to use selinexor, a drug therapy used to fight inflammation and viral infection in cancer patients.

They are examining how we can decrease the ability of the virus to replicate or reproduce in the patients’ cells, they also want to see how it can decrease the release of a biochemical responsible for inflammation that in some cases can cause organ damage.
