Also, since this is an RNA virus, it's going to mutate through this whole process which will make the immunization cocktail a little more complicated.  Think flu vs measles.  DNA doesn't mutate as fast so you have longer immunity.   You can catch the flu every year, but you can't get the measles every year.  It's a moving target.

The overall impact will be felt for another 18 months after we start immunizing the entire planet.  Think of the massive probate work for millions of dead, lawsuits, companies out of business.  There will be a massive concentration of wealth as the weaker companies are swallowed up by those that have resources to survive, or the political clout to survive.

It's not going to be, May 1st, we all return to normal.  I would love that, but what kind of changes could we make to make the virus and mortality rate just go away?

Trump's batting average for mid-term endorsement winners was only about 50 percent, so not sure the electorate is nearly as enamored with him as some (especially Trump himself) might suggest. A state supreme court judge in Wisconsin just lost a race expected to go to the conservative despite Trump's endorsement and significant efforts to suppress voter turnout in liberal-leaning Milwaukee. Approval ratings for congress are even lower than the president, so not sure how Moscow Mitch doesn't pay for this eventually.

The problem is that nobody blames their own congressman for congress's failings.  McConnell is interesting because in 2014 he significantly under-performed compared to how Romney 2012 and Trump 2016 did in KY, which is also odd because dems consistently turn out better in presidential years, rather than midterms.  I don't know if McGrath is anymore appealing than Grimes (although after losing to McConnell Grimes was re-elected as Secretary of State, so she clearly could win statewide).

KY may also be an inverse of someplaces like Maryland, where we overwhelming reelected a Republican Governor in 2018, but odds would be extremely high against him in a Senate race.

Happily, I will provide it.  It's the obvious. Not in any particular order.

    1. Create or enable a central organization to coordinate with all state and local governments a commissary system that supplies PPE, Vents, sanitizers, meds and other supplies needed to save lives based on the projected needs from the front lines.

    2. This organization should utilize the 1950 war powers act that was enacted by Trump but not significantly used to meet the projected needs of the front line responders, including police, EMS and the medical community.  Sign contracts with the government to convert factories and our manufacturing industry to ramp up production like we're in WWII and making B17 bombers.

    3. Train people who have immunity on basic respiratory medicine to be used to treat people who are sick as the medical community falls ill and the numbers increase to overwhelm hospitals.

    4. Work with Apple/Google, etc to design an app everyone has that identifies symptoms and tracks social interactions to mitigate community spread.

    5. Ramp up production through the war powers act to get every company capable of manufacturing quick tests for the virus and for the antibody to rapidly make available categorical determinations of who is sick, or immune (to the extent we know) to work the supply chain and keep the manufacturing of critical supplies and the food chain running.

    6. Give whatever support/money necessary that will accelerate an immunization solution, because, until we get 60% herd immunity, which comes with a terrible cost, we will not be able to "open up" society.

    7. Speedtrack visas for foreign workers to harvest crops and keep the food supply chain moving.

    8. Work with other countries because the food supply is a global equation.

    9. Let statisticians and experts do the talking and use our expertise and history, and not a narcissistic d!ck sucking fest presser to give people good information and stop the confusion that just costs us grandma.

    10. Etc.

Where's the bullet point for creating a sham committee that relies on nepotism to tell the president what he already wants to hear?

    DOCID: 2020413-US-PUBLIC-POLICY-OPENLETTER
    <------------------------ BEGIN OPEN LETTER ------------------------->

IT'S BROKE AND WE DON'T KNOW WHY -- BUT WE HAVE SUSPICIONS
Without assumption, under direct observation, the United States Government does not exceed or meet its mandates. Grotesque in scale, as it is difficult to ascertain with a significant amount of deterministic and quantitatively substantive evidence, studies, or reports about the performance of large institutions, an attempt must be made to approximate what is failing and why. Until an analysis of the broad contours of U.S. political and governmental power and control, understanding how and why the 8000 pound gorilla is acting out, we will not fix this. And today, in less than a month the U.S. government has demonstrated that it is not concerned for the welfare of its citizens. Full Stop

PURSUITS NOT IN SEARCH OF LIBERTY, OR LIFE
And, that the United States of American has unofficially decided to align itself in a manner and method that threatens the lives of many citizens, it is wise to act in favor of the citizen, who is the sovereign, and disseminate the fact that maladministration of public offices, by public officials, threatens their pursuits, liberty, and lives. Unfortunately this is not a hyperbolic statement, if a month prior someone had sent me a similar letter, I would have dismissed it out of hand. But, in looking at the data from the Centers for Disease Control, Johns Hopkins University, Wolfram Research, University of Arizona, University of Kentucky, Stanford University, California Public University, testimonials from immunologists, microbiologists, public health administrators, practicing physicians, nurses, emergency medical personnel, and their families, I can only reach one conclusion. This is not OUR government, but THEIR government.

"HONOR OR DISLOYALTY?", QUEEN SAYS "PICK ONE"
In the recent resignation of the acting Secretary of the Navy, Modly, and relieving from duty the commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, Cozier. When the armed services must be made to serve as loyalists to the Commander and Chief, the underlying structural institutions are failing. There is no requirement, constitutionally, that binds one to any person or office of the United States of America. As a citizen, the ability to protect and defend that to which I've sworn is not possible--not by my hand or word. The primary tool and weapon to wield against foreign and domestic enemies to ideals; research and studies using evidence and objective information, analysis and reporting in a manner consistent with clinical studies standards, and to call on fellow citizens into service of their country. Lastly, with an ear on the ground listening to the murmuring of the those alive during the enlightenment for guidance and wisdom. To Thomas Paine, my sincerest gratitude and respect for facing history in the moment, to inform fellow citizens of the injustices and crimes committed against them and without their knowledge.

    NO HESITATION OR RESERVATION
And in signing this letter, I acknowledge and understand that the expressions and statements are my own, given freely and without reservation. It is my contention that the proof given by the President of the United States of America during the month of March and 13 days of April, 2020, is evidenced by a comprehensive set of records provided publicly make indisputably clear by and objective measure, the United States of America's Federal government is incapable of honoring and maintaining the Union in good faith. State governments are operating under the rubric of fending for themselves, and in some cases from the federal government, in order to fulfill health and safety obligations to their health services personnel and citizens. Not only does the federal government fail to honor its own edicts and proclamations, but it is acting in a manner hostile to state and local governments across the United States. As state government procurement offices must contend with purchase arrangements or RFQ's and related mechanisms, it state officials rarely contemplated that the U.S. federal government would intercede during the acquisition process in a manner that could be characterized as illegal.

    AS WHEN AT WAR
As states are denied purchasing opportunities by the federal government during a national emergency (as in an invasion from a foreign power) and have deployed the guard, if the federal government takes from available sources the ammunition the guard needs to defend it citizens, then most certainly there has been a criminal act. This is using the power of federal government to bring harm to a state--premeditated and prejudiciously, with malice and distain. State governors have actively engaged in "ring kissing ceremonies" in order to secure resources for personnel and citizens.

Signed by a vigilant (not vigilante) Citizen of the Former United States of America

Heard this morning there's been a spike in new cases in both China and Japan, where they had clamped down early and effectively, and they weren't sure if wasn't already a new mutation.   :s

At this point that really doesn't matter because such a small percentage of existing people in those populations were infected/recovered.  If the virus mutated to be more or less virulent, that would be significant.

But yeah, it's just going to keep coming back, you can't eradicate it without immunization.   And of course we will have a bunch of antivaxers that think they'll get "the autism" but will end up killing grandma.  "See you in heaven, grandma!"

I don’t typically agree with Bill Maher’s politics, and don’t necessarily agree with everything he espouses here, but he does make some salient points:

I have two friends in the medical industry who have very low opinions of the WHO, but cutting that much funding right in the middle of a worldwide pandemic is....  :o

"Trump for his part spent the first weeks of February telling the country the problem is going away. FEBRUARY 10-12 at a governor's conference

So on March 10, Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot went to NY City Hall to share the findings with Mayor Bill de Blasio and urge him to begin taking more drastic action to control the spread of the coronavirus, which has since claimed 450 lives across New York City. De Blasio resisted, believing that closing schools, restaurants and cultural centers would cripple the city’s economy and disproportionately hurt the marginalized residents he aims to prioritize.

2/24/20-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi toured San Francisco's Chinatown Monday to send a message. She said there's no reason tourists or locals should be staying away from the area because of coronavirus concerns.

During a Feb. 29, 2020, interview, Dr. Fauci said that at that time and under the circumstances pertaining to that date, Americans didn't need to change their behavior patterns.

Just the facts Ron, just the facts.

Someone else here quoted that Trump owns this. Really?? Trying to pin the blame on one person or party is ludicrous. Everyone reacts to their own political leanings yet fail to go back a short time and look at comments from Politicians on both sides.

Meanwhile, there's Uncle Joe Biden who can't even form a complete sentence yet he's the Dem's top choice? WTF?
