There are the occasional threads now once in awhile (and I have no idea why they’re allowed to last beyond a day) but it’s still far less than it once was.
This place is what it is. It’s not for everyone. You can’t build a forum for everyone. Different people like what they like. I don’t know. To me there seems to be plenty of variety and you can pick and choose what looks interesting.
The only real moderation I’d like to see is moving threads to OT or their proper subforum. That would allow folks who don’t want to be bothered by OT stuff to not have to see the threads at all if they didn’t want to.I actually really agree with this, particularly the organizational aspect of it. Thinking more on it, it's the difficulty in finding a concentration of interested BGE and BBQ related content on this forum that causes me to lose interest. Just last night seeing there's another political thread running awry on here was irritating to me because I feel like that stuff has been inescapable lately. But again, to your point, I really should have whined about all the OT stuff in general. Here's my thinking:- When I want to read general news and commentary, I go to reddit, news websites, etc.- When I want to read about mountain biking, I go to mountain biking websites.- When I want to read about skydiving, I go to skydiving websites.Of the sites I go to for various subjects, none are remotely as diluted as this one.Increasingly you have to rummage through pages of threads to try and find something interesting and BGE related, and it's simply not an expedient way to run across new ideas for things to cook, methods, etc.I'll concede that maybe it's always been a hot mess here, though having visited frequently since 2010, and created my account in 2012, I never noticed I had trouble finding material that was on-point like I do now. Perhaps my perspective and patience level have shifted. If the dozen people that dominate the content here enjoy the egghead forum as a place to talk about anything and everything, with maybe 50% on-subject, then it is what it is. It simply isn't a very useful resource for egging anymore. No worries, have fun!
here is your OT post regarding skydiving on this very forum (gasp!)

@The Cen-Tex Smoker is always on point.

The only thing more hysterical than seeing that someone actually has 10's of thousands of posts on this forum, is that they spent time researching to find the singular off-topic thread a person makes over 7 years after they complain this place is off the rails. So priceless, I love it. :-)
-
One of my very favorite things is when someone starts an OT thread to complain about OT threads and then doubles down by keeping it in the first page.
-
Even though it’s sinking. Lol.

17,718 [posts] * 5 [minutes/post]= 88590 [minutes]88590 [minutes] / 60 [minutes/hour] = 1476.5 hoursI've repurposed this place. It's like watching an episode of Hoarders to feel good about yourself. Bahhaha!

I’m one of my least favorite people and that took less than a minute to type. Try again.

It took 30 seconds. You have been on here since 2012 and have 20 posts. 2 of themreinhart36 said:The only thing more hysterical than seeing that someone actually has 10's of thousands of posts on this forum, is that they spent time researching to find the singular off-topic thread a person makes over 7 years after they complain this place is off the rails. To add to this. Its not unheard of to take a week or more to get ok'd to join this forum. I had to use "Report forum abuse" to get someone to acknowledge my registration. Having been a moderator on a very busy forum. None of the lengthy political discussions would be allowed to take place and new members can post right away. What would be hilarious is if I get banned for posting this...JohnInCarolina said:The irony here is that not long ago the Buffalo came through and said political threads (and, sadly, gifs of bouncing boobs) would be grounds for banishment. It’s always the guys with 20 posts over 10years that “don’t like it here”.

If you don't think the left (Democrats) would ban All outdoor cooking devices, BGE included, in the name of global warming you're wrong. That makes our preferred method and types of food we cook political.

Just like they took everyone’s guns away when Obama was in the White House? Yeah...MacPa said:If you don't think the left (Democrats) would ban All outdoor cooking devices, BGE included, in the name of global warming you're wrong. That makes our preferred method and types of food we cook political.

No. I used to like it here. But you and the 5 other obsessive egghead geezers shat the bed up pretty good here. Just saying, there's a reason this place gets no traffic, and that reason is you. Roll in it, no worries. The Cen-Tex Smoker said:It’s always the guys with 20 posts over 10years that “don’t like it here”. -
They should rename the website www.fiveoldmentallyillguys.com
