OT - Gravity Sports?

I see a lot of posts about climbing, mountain biking, etc..
I find myself wondering if there are other Eggheads here that are into BASE Jumping, wingsuits or skydiving in general??
My videos have generally never been available on the web for the general public, but I plunked a couple on there in case anyone is interested.
It's important to maintain a balance.  Cooking is fantastic, but, gravity has a lot to offer too.
Hopefully there are some others out there...  Anyone?

The best part is you said first? Close to dieing once wasn’t enough? My wife when we were dating didn’t know my legs start shaking on a ladder at 10’ so she decided after a couple years of dating to surprise me for my birthday she didn’t tell me what we were doing just how to dress. We got there and she had already paid so we jumped from 15,000 feet or 14990’ above safe zone. It was amazing we did it in cape canaveral so we could see the space center and the ocean and the end of the world. Good luck to you.

This is a pic from our wall as we left the plane you can see the camera guy still holding on. There are some shots from the video where me and the nut im attached to are head down and you can see the curvature of the earth in the back.

Whoohoo!  Those are awesome pictures!  Did you guys go back for more?
Here's one I like from Bridge Day a few years ago:
The nice thing about jumping sans airplane, is how peaceful it is when you exit.

I jumped once in Australia! Great experience. I’m now too heavy to jump tandem but if I get my weight under control I’ll definitely do it again. Just not ready to be in control of the chute yet!

Does this count as a gravity sport?

Other than that, I have done a session in an "iFly", vertical wind tunnel; it's amazing the muscles you use while "falling" that you don't otherwise use, and how sore you are the next day.

I did 4 static line jumps back in the day.  Don't have any pics though.  Does that count?

At 6'6" 215 (back then, 230 now) I was considered too big for an assisted/tandem/accelerated freefall by any of the local instructors...

I think the pucks would have trouble in zero gravity.

  • It all depends on what the goal of the game is..?  :-)

I love that movie.  In fact, I read in a skydiving magazine some years ago, that Point Break actually tripled the new membership of the sport in one season or something, and is largely credited with making it as mainstream as it is today.  Fantastic film...

Which Point Break?  Like Red Dawn and Footloose (Ok, not really Footloose), there is the original, and there is the money grubbing pretender.

    Absolutely counts!
Yeah, it's crazy how beat up you are after a day of skydiving.
I once had an opening so hard I cracked a rib and blood was just seeping out of a big patch of damaged skin on my chest..
Sky gear is supposed to slow you from 130is to 15ish MPH over several seconds, but when it does it in 0.5 seconds, it hurts real bad..
But ... Mostly, it's fun as hell!

I'm hoping and praying, we're all talking about the Point Break that was the original from the late 80's..  Excellent question...

I love adrenaline rushes. I say I would like to jump out of a plane. I say I would love the feeling of free falling. But when at the door, I think I would need to be pushed.  Not sure if I have the ba11s to really do it.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker I will not accuse you of sliding in the knife  but I did have quite a gravity sport event yesterday.  If you look closely at my sig line you will notice any reference to the LBGE is gone.  I am now waiting on a new dome, band assembly and fire box.  I won't recap here.  "What are you doing now" has a quick summary.  Onward and upward.

I don’t follow that thread often so thanks for the heads up. Unlike so many others, I have actually never read a thread I didn't click

I did my first and likely last tandem jump from 13 K' with my older son who smoked thru his first year of college.  He jumped, the video crew jumped then  away I went.  Just to test the waters we did it on 6/6/2006 or 6/6/6.  Either a walk-away or auger in for the finale.  Outcome obvious.  BTW- he was hooked for a few more jumps but once the true cost was upfront he has retired from the sport.
Enjoy it as it is one he11 of a rush!

    More gravity type fun...

    Uhhh.  No thanks.

ps. I dislike heights.  I’m getting new gutters with the tops on them so I don’t have to get on a ladder twice a year anymore!
