I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it should be ok to post non cooks in the off topic thread. A reader can also choose to read the them or not by adjusting his or her forum view.
We are all entitled to our opinions....and respect the OP’s. That said, it’s like reading a newspaper or the Internet. You read what you choose. I like the sports page myself.....Dear Abby not so much. Let’s not take life so serious while on the planet.....and agree that Duke’s is the standard for Mayo.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

I had never seen them in portion packs before yesterday. Man it’s an Internet forum with an off topic thread......for a purpose. I have personally tried to be a better manager of technology, and less about being managed by it. I still enjoy humor and there is some great stuff here that is not about food. Much more serious things to worry about than a politics thread. I hope you and others who view it the way you do.....will all have a great day. Cheersreinhart36 said:

It's depressing that it's in your face here too. This should be a nice refuge from that IMO.I've noticed anecdotally, there seems to be way less activity here than there used to be. Not sure if that's accurate, but I'd bet on it. I certainly come here pretty seldom now, which is telling. This used to be the first link my browser would offer me because I came here to read so much.Anyway, thanks to all who stay on point and post content consistent with the interests of those who browse here for ideas and camaraderie, and to support the community of folks who enjoy cooking for sport ... with fire..Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

The irony here is that not long ago the Buffalo came through and said political threads (and, sadly, gifs of bouncing boobs) would be grounds for banishment. The Buffalo then banned a few people and all the political stuff pretty much stopped. There are the occasional threads now once in awhile (and I have no idea why they’re allowed to last beyond a day) but it’s still far less than it once was.
This place is what it is. It’s not for everyone. You can’t build a forum for everyone. Different people like what they like. I don’t know. To me there seems to be plenty of variety and you can pick and choose what looks interesting.
The only real moderation I’d like to see is moving threads to OT or their proper subforum. That would allow folks who don’t want to be bothered by OT stuff to not have to see the threads at all if they didn’t want to."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

That would allow folks who don’t want to be bothered by OT stuff to not have to see the threads at all if they didn’t want to.I actually really agree with this, particularly the organizational aspect of it. Thinking more on it, it's the difficulty in finding a concentration of interested BGE and BBQ related content on this forum that causes me to lose interest. Just last night seeing there's another political thread running awry on here was irritating to me because I feel like that stuff has been inescapable lately. But again, to your point, I really should have whined about all the OT stuff in general. Here's my thinking:- When I want to read general news and commentary, I go to reddit, news websites, etc.- When I want to read about mountain biking, I go to mountain biking websites.- When I want to read about skydiving, I go to skydiving websites.Of the sites I go to for various subjects, none are remotely as diluted as this one.Increasingly you have to rummage through pages of threads to try and find something interesting and BGE related, and it's simply not an expedient way to run across new ideas for things to cook, methods, etc.I'll concede that maybe it's always been a hot mess here, though having visited frequently since 2010, and created my account in 2012, I never noticed I had trouble finding material that was on-point like I do now. Perhaps my perspective and patience level have shifted. If the dozen people that dominate the content here enjoy the egghead forum as a place to talk about anything and everything, with maybe 50% on-subject, then it is what it is. It simply isn't a very useful resource for egging anymore. No worries, have fun! -

I hate these kinds of threads. 100% agree. It was nice to have one place to escape the nastiness of politics and learn about egging . It’s gone tho. Even have a few trolls on here who never post a thing about egging , just start crap about politics . I especially love the guys on here who do actually talk about egging but always have to be an **** and say something crappy in their comments. 30% or more of the 30 posts on my first page have nothing to do with a cook on the BGE.
No complaints about the other posts that are non political, yet they provide zero information on cooks.
You can find what you want, when you want.
When you stop commenting on threads they vanish.
Otherwise they keep plugging along because you, and those like you, post your objection to those who think differently than you.
Sorry about free speech in America. It is a right upheld in every case brought before the USSC, from Larry Flynt's pornography to the burning of the flag.
So spare me about political comments on the forum. Don't read it....participate in the other 28 on the front page and hundreds more, on all the other pages, that have no political alliances.
You have that choice....nobody makes you read these posts.

I took my 36” to my moms house for a big family cook, and it’s been there ever since. Ive been using the 22” ever since at home, but I’ve wanted the big one back. I almost bought a 28” used yesterday, but in talking to the seller he said he was picking up a 36” on sale at Walmart instead. That ended our negotiation. He found the original at $180, but I found this one 30 miles away (using brickseek). Excited to give it a go, I like that it comes with a cover.SmokeyPitt said:cookingdude555 said:Got this at Walmart tonight, only $249. Regularly $447.

Stongly disagree. If I do a simple cook, I post it in the what are you doing thread. Lots of us do it. We really don't need thousands of cook threads showing a few pieces of chicken being grilled, or some koftas, which are not worth a whole thread, but worth a post and a couple of pics.Theophan said:

Not that keen on a separate cook thread either, it's nice to have cooking pics mixed in with other stuff people are up to.
Finally, take out the OT and banter and you might as well buy some cook books and read them on your own. A forum is for social interaction, not just a cooking directory. -

Actually I've found(and made) recommendations for several cook books on this forum. I tend to like individual cooking threads, if a group thread already has a thousand posts, I usually skip it. As far as banter goes, it's fine if generally connected to the thread. No need to bring TDS or Trumpanzees into each and every thread.Eoin said:

Like Eoin said above, I'll post a worn-out cook in the "What are you doing", but if its a new technique (to me), or sumpin' special, I'll make a separate thread.
I used to use the separate Beef/Pork/Chicken/Pizza subforums, but I don't think anyone looks at those, and I get many more looks just posting in the "General" forum."Hallelujah, Noel, be it Heaven or Hell,
