The past time of Egging, and this forum as a supporting resource, used to be a nice escape from the onslaught of propaganda a person gets every time we turn on any flavor of talk news (radio or tv), or click for "news" on my phone while taking a dump. It's depressing that it's in your face here too. This should be a nice refuge from that IMO.
I've noticed anecdotally, there seems to be way less activity here than there used to be. Not sure if that's accurate, but I'd bet on it. I certainly come here pretty seldom now, which is telling. This used to be the first link my browser would offer me because I came here to read so much.
Anyway, thanks to all who stay on point and post content consistent with the interests of those who browse here for ideas and camaraderie, and to support the community of folks who enjoy cooking for sport ... with fire..

Thank you for pointing this out. I have noticed a shift in topics even in the short time I have been reading.

Yeah, I want to see more pictures of baby pigs being smoked on an egg and less pictures of the atrocities of pellet smokers... Yucky.. ;-) (serious though)

I just ignore posts I can see that I won't be interested in, so it doesn't bother me.
I think that part of the camaraderie, as you put it, is people feeling like they've become friends, and friends sometimes like to talk with each other about things other than Big Green Eggs. I sometimes wish there wasn't so very much off-topic stuff here, but I get it. -

There have been quite a few lately. Hoping mentioning it can help nip it before this place goes to **** like the rest of the www.DoubleEgger said:It’s one thread. Scroll on

I guess what I'm getting at is even if there's just a thread or two on the main page every day, it just feels like more "click bait" to try and ignore in your browser, and I'm getting sick of that ****. Maybe it doesn't get so old to everyone else.DoubleEgger said:It’s one thread. Scroll on

I simply don't click on a thread titled " Why Don We Nuke Em".
This isn't hard.

Maybe I've been unlucky. I've popped in here about once a week for the last month and every time there's been prominent threads about mass shootings, gun control, Trump nuking the weather, etc. It's always something.ColtsFan said:I simply don't click on a thread titled " Why Don We Nuke Em".

I get it, but I still stand on the premise that these can quickly be avoided by simply not looking at.reinhart36 said:

Trust me micheal is the king crybaby around here and he has spewed more than his fair share of crying over political threads. Don’t let him fool you with his typical bait to collect likes. Nothing more than a puppet who feeds off people liking his posts. Sad, but true.reinhart36 said:

Point being, it was once an escape from the political click-bait BS. Now it's here too, in the form of threads that you need to try and ignore. May hab I'm the only one who finds that garbage annoying when it's in your face on every web page. I generally don't click the stuff, but it's annoying just to see it everywhere, IMO.Seen the movie Idiocracy? People are sponsored to say "Brought to you by taco bell" or whatever when they talk. Sure, that wouldn't require you to go to taco bell, but it sure will be annoying when we get there. Seems like we're well on our way.
-
In fact, I'll stop contributing to this off topic thread I created. I just wanted to mention it'd be nice if that stuff stopped, for what little it's worth.
-
Many folks post cooks in the "what are you doing now?" thread, which makes it seem like there are fewer cook threads when you look at the main page.
I'm with the others who point out that you don't have to click on threads that don't interest you. I skip several threads daily for that reason.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
Got this at Walmart tonight, only $249. Regularly $447.

I cannot believe how heavy it was. Required loading help made me feel old on this one. This may be the wrong thread to post it, but throwing it out there anyway.
Agreed, forum has lost a lot of traction. Everyone has moved to Facebook. If you don’t like Facebook, I would reconsider. This site is every bit Facebook, except it isn’t moderated. -
That’s some expensive drawers!

Don’t know where y’all been, but in my 5 yrs here I don’t remember a time when there weren’t political discussions.
I do think the what are you doing thread has killed a lot of cook threads. -
I stopped opening the what are you doing now thread a long time ago because folks were posting stupid crap.

If that were my criteria, I’d leave the forum all together.

Geeezzzz...now someone is even whining about the single most viewed/commented/popular thread this forum has (and likely ever will have). You truly can't please everyone and this is evidence of why you shouldn't even try.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. A main objective of the political left is to shut down any speech they don't agree with. What is the intention of this thread?
