Happy Birthday Brent, you are missed.
Don't tell your problems to people. 80% of people don't care and 20% are glad you have them.

I just brought out a recipe Brent gave to me, when I first started with a BGE. I wrote it down on the back of a an old used envelope that just happened to laying close when we talked.
He gave me his number and told me to call him, if there would be issues during the cook. It is still there, in blue ink...smudged at the bottom of the recipe. I am sure giving me his phone number was a decision he regretted over the years.
I thought of him as a friend and a brother, from that particular moment forward.
He never called me a friend. He always called me brother. I am certain he felt that way about everyone he met. However, for me, I felt important. I felt it required me to be a better person. I tried so hard to be. He was just that inspirational to me.
That was the thing. I am as unspectacular as any human could possibly try to be. But not to Brent. He always treated me with respect, something very few people made any attempt to try..
The recipe? Pork butt. How pathetic was that? I took the instructions....for my first.
I thought I had scaled the Matterhorn. It came out great. I have since changed it, added modifications... talked to him about it, needed his thoughts, got the blessing.
I swear, if I were Brent I would have blocked my number and changed mine. He did not, and we became, in my perception, very good friends.
We were brothers that loved each others as brothers would, and fought as brothers would. He never took a step back, nor would I have ever expected him too.
With that being said, I am thankful for all of my friends on this forum that banded together to help fill the void in my life since we lost Brent. Thank all of you from the very depth of my heart.
I can raise a toast, and perhaps it would be the honorable thing to do. In a sense that is saying good bye, obviously in respect to a very great man.
That I just find difficult to do.
He still lives among us, from helping so many people with his surgical gifts living a better life, or providing his brilliant insight which he shared...and in my case, the help he gave a nobody, like me, to which I can pass on to all those coming on board.
So, in my heart and soul, I remain thankful I got to know this brilliant man. I just can not bring myself to say goodbye, because so much of him remains here, with all of us.
Peace my brother. Thank you for making my life better."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Damn…....I just read every post on all 9 pages of this thread and all I can say is WOW. I never knew or met Brent but I sure wish I would have. He seemed like a great person.

I often tell folks that being an a-hole comes easy to me... being nice/decent is challenging.
@bgebrent was the absolute opposite. He was a real gent.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
