Being one of the newer members here, I enjoy pretty much everything that gets posted. I’ve been around forums enough to know what to expect. To me, some of the best stuff isn’t BGE related but gives me ideas...BTW, I never would have bought a BS if I hadn’t came here...it’s all good!Eastern Shore Virginia

Yes, I may feel more like part of the in crowd if I attended Butt-Blast and other events. I attend my local Eggfest but I'm retired and can't afford to run all over the country to attend events that sound more like a drunken campout than an Egg event. I don't drink anymore so I doubt I would fit in even if i had the money to attend. That's the problem with retirement; you finally have the time but not the money. Just the opposite of when I was working.
Secondly, while there is a bacchANAL aspect to Butt Blast, we regularly have people there who aren't drinking much or even at all. I don't think you have to imbibe to appreciate things like Nola stealing my pizza turner to stir his crawfish boil and other kinds of shenanigans. You definitely don't need to be drinking to appreciate the food, although it does help to have had a good amount of bourbon before trying anything Brent puts out - just from an antiseptic standpoint. I kid.
I don't know man, this place is what it is. It is unlikely to change anytime soon. My advice is to try and focus on the things you value and ignore the things you don't. I think that's generally a pretty good way to go through life.Steve

My first newb post, had never been to an eggfest, never seen anyone cook on one, etc.
https://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1165351/how-many-packers-can-be-cooked-on-an-xl#latest
I almost quit the forum that day in tears, but I persevered.
As my boss drilled into me over the years, there is such a thing as a stupid question and there are stupid people who ask questions. The trick is knowing the difference.

Bonus: No one here has threatened to shoot anyone. Not in a while but it has happened. There have been a few "I'm coming to your house to kick your a$$" posts too but most of that has settled down. Haven't seen one of those in 3-4 years (maybe longer).

Seems to me we could collectively write a manifesto/instruction guide to cooking on the egg, get the BGE corp to publish it as a resource and just shut this mother down. But I think part of the success of the BGE line of fine products is the culture, which is part brand identity and part "egghead" nation hype.Anyhow, just a suggestion/observation. Carry on.Avoid bad smoke and AM radio and you'll have a better life.______________________________________________I love lamp..

I was once invited to what I though was a "bacchanal "but instead turned out to be a week of Baroque music and sodomy.
Thoroughly disgusted, I only stayed a few days. -

Please don't respect me, it only puts too much pressure on me and you risk people lowering their opinion of you.
There is no SLA for being a member on this forum. No minimum posts you have to make, required cooks you have to do, questions you have to answer, etc., although compulsory brisket for first post might be fun. You need an email address and a screen name. You don’t even need an egg or like to bbq or have to even make one post. So, you’re calling out the people that post here because they can be more spirited about topics you don’t think belong and may not help answer every question that comes along? Where in life did anyone learn they should expect prompt, accurate answers on a free bbq forum to the level that one sitting unattended is a problem? Repost or bump it, happens all the time.
I hope the forum doesn’t take a turn into millennialville with what people deserve or expect. But then, it’s not my forum, it goes the way it goes. There are lots of other forums related to bbq and green eggs where the water may be a better temp for some, in fact that's probably why there are so many other forums, FB groups, etc. It only helps to sell eggs to more forums and websites.
Variety is not actually a spice, but it certainly makes it more interesting around here. You do you. We all should.
Love you bro! -
Ok that’s weird. We all should do ourselves, not do you. That’s what I meant.
Love you bro! -
Wait, nope. Damnit. Not quite right. We should all just be ourselves.
Nailed it. Shjt.

Sorry @SaintJohnsEgger. Looks like this ones fading fast.... In the spirit of your original intent. Rockwood is the best lump, be sure to never ever cook less than a 3/4" steak, Blackstone Griddles are awesome but you can get tired of them, Cherry wood works wonders on pork, Pecan for Brisket, the yeah and Nahs of the KAB make it a mystery, and SRF although pricey probably has better briskets than Costco. Oh and if you are in the market for another level cooking rack get a CGS AR and the javelin pro duo is equally as good as the thermapen MK4

I promise you'd fit in SJE.
Is people drinking, yes, but there are plenty that do not. I am one that does not drink nor does my family that I bring to camp out that weekend. I trust my family being around these folks. Everyone is stand up folks and I'll honestly say, it is your loss. I love these folks more than they'll ever know. Good people.
With that said, don't judge the event just by what's displayed, though they were fun and games, and I have no doubt if you were there, you'd love every minute of it.
Doesn't cost much to attend BB brother. Gas is cheap and we don't ask for a penny, just come on.------------------------------
