Sorry @SaintJohnsEgger. Looks like this ones fading fast.... In the spirit of your original intent. Rockwood is the best lump, be sure to never ever cook less than a 3/4" steak, Blackstone Griddles are awesome but you can get tired of them, Cherry wood works wonders on pork, Pecan for Brisket, the yeah and Nahs of the KAB make it a mystery, and SRF although pricey probably has better briskets than Costco. Oh and if you are in the market for another level cooking rack get a CGS AR and the javelin pro duo is equally as good as the thermapen MK4

The argument against this thread, is the current John Prine thread.  Was not too familiar with the man or his work prior to that thread.  Threads like that enrich this forum as well as my life.

When I first started on this forum I saw guys were 10 K 20 K deep in posts.
I thought dang these boys take egging pretty seriously.
     And then I found OT.
I think anyone with 10K posts is a loser with WAYYYYY too much time on their hands.
    This!!
What about guys with almost 18 000?  ;)
    What about them?
    Losers...Both of them.  =)

OT threads keep this place going, it would be boring without them. If you just want facts, close the forum and put a big search box on the home page, because the answers to life, the universe and everything have already been posted here in the past.

You make a good point.  Often times I google things and the top results are from this forum.  Which is exactly why I joined.

  • Guys. I never said that I'm against off topic threads. I enjoy lots of them and they do keep things interesting. I have also participated.

My concern is that they get way more emphasis than BGE  or cooking threads. And that people get so nasty about politics and other people's stance on social issues such as Trump or Chik-Fil-A or sexual preference.

I just want to see more emphasis on the Eggs, their usage and cooking. Post about Blackstone or your gas grill or sous vide etc are fine with me too.

There is an easy remedy to this: post more of your own cooks as threads.  You are welcome.

Bonus: No one here has threatened to shoot anyone.

Not in a while but it has happened. There have been a few "I'm coming to your house to kick your a$$" posts too but most of that has settled down. Haven't seen one of those in 3-4 years (maybe longer).

I may not know you, know where you live in Cen-Tex, or hate you in any way what so ever, but because of this post I am coming down there to kick you're a$$. There now there has been a new one.  =)
Me And my friends “smith and Wesson” will be waiting (insert address here)

now we have it all covered (this literally happened on here)
That one fella never came to my house.
was that you? I know who the threatener was but forgot who was on the business end of it.
It could be another instance, but this one guy "747" something said he was coming for me at one point.  I think his messages on my wall are gone now and I cannot remember if I took screen shots.  Good times.

There was a thread made about it too.

If what you're really after is to see more cooking being emphasized, there is a fairly simple remedy: just click over to any of the subforums focused on protein, such as

    https://eggheadforum.com/categories/beef

    https://eggheadforum.com/categories/lamb

    https://eggheadforum.com/categories/pork

And so on.  The kind of OT stuff you find so objectionable almost never ends up in any of those.

What you seem to want here is for the overall forum behavior to change in such as way as to give you a better experience, when in reality it is far easier for you to change your own behavior to give you what you want.

John, I don’t think you’re getting it.  Some people pay extra for the platinum subscription that guarantees a certain number of ‘exciting and new’ cooks per day along with accessory reviews & recommendations.

It would be nice to have an ignore function like I’ve seen on other forums.  I have no issues with OT threads and OT banter, just not a fan of consistent arrogance and self righteousness.

I find that present in a lot of the threads in the Egghead forum also.

Indeed, it’s very predictable across the board with some.
  • I wonder if the aggregate threads on the main page could be configured to ignore the OT subforum. But that will only work if people post in the correct forum. probably no solution available other than self control.

On the bright side this may end up being the longest thread that I have ever started.

I will say that one thing I wouldn’t mind seeing here is some simple moderation where OT threads were moved to the Off Topic forum if they weren’t there already.  That would make it easier for folks who weren’t interested in that sort of thing at all to just ignore it.

Take it up with HQ.  No matter what changes or doesn’t change, someone will be unhappy.  Take your shot, changes to the forum mechanics are a better strategy than asking everyone to behave a certain way.  I’m not opposed to reasonable moderation or whatever.  Everyone has to make their own peace-out decision to be here or not and how and how much they want to interact.  Sanitizing it probably loses some people while others would emerge from the shadows.  Change is inevitable, and if anything, BGE is known for change.
    Love you bro!
