@tarheelmatt What victory? haha. You bailed on us this year...wanted to make sure it was fair to the competition?

@caliking Trim texted me yesterday and said if you beat him he was going to appeal the decision. Something about bias based on homoerotic bourbon drinking in the woods of NC.

I would do almost anything for bourbon slushie...
I wouldn't advertise that too publicly amongst this crew.

The video makes that pretty clear.  His comment above is really redundant.

I’m ashamed of what I would do for a bourbon slushing.

I can't stand to let good leftovers go bad.  Turkey noodle soup which you have seen, cornbread left over from the dressing and mustard greens spiced up with my home grown cayenne peppers and seasoned with the ham we served Thursday.

The best things in life are not things.

  • I love the fact that we still have pics coming in.

Next year we can extend through Monday night. After that I feel like we get into a bacterial gray area.

I know I’m late to the party - turkey and andouille gumbo.  Made stock from turkey carcass.
First time trying this, but made roux from flour toasted in the oven and adding turkey stock.

The roux looks like it turned out! Deets?

@caliking and @Jstroke - I stole this method from America’s Test Kitchen.  It’s very simple. Put one part AP flour in a skillet and bake in 425 degree oven for about 45 minutes. (I stirred it around half way through).  When toasted, mix well with two parts stock.  This was way easier than standing there and stirring a traditional roux.

You could cook it shorter or longer depending on the color roux you want.

I did have some lumps to work out, so next time, I will sift the flour on the front end.

I will definitely use this method again.  Here is a link to the ATK episode.

@mEGG_My_Day Thanks, I'll try that. I've had good results with Alton Brown's oven roux, but this may be even easier.

Thanks a bunch @YukonRon I bet you have and or know the best wine to pair that with?  It would've kicked ass with some bourbon slushies too!

I think a nice white burgundy blend would have paired very well with that meal brother.
    Looked awesome.

We can officially put a bow on this throwdown.

Thank you to @Killit_and_Grillit for the nice swag box.   I especially appreciate the three random pieces of cardboard and I’ll kill that MRE.   I also LOVE the soup sandwich patch.  Freaking hilarious.

Stand by for the next throwdown.  I’m leaning toward something for National Bacon Day or a Jan 1 hangover throwdown.

Thank you again to all who participated and all who voted.

    Cheers!
