Or let’s pass a bunch of new ones hope they will make a difference. Maybe we hit the lottery this time. Always a chance. I guess we still have enforcement but that is hard.Spaightlabs said:
Statistically something like 68% of laws are broken by criminals. Since that is the case, apparently no new laws should be passed?4Runner said:
Big reach. Huge reach. And this “majority” reference. Not buying it. Sounds like a internet blog to me. The LV shooting was done by a lunatic that broke the law. I’m struggling with how new laws would have helped...just means to me he would have broken new laws.JohnInCarolina said:Again, we pretty much have majority support in the US around universal background checks, getting rid of several loopholes, etc.
Such legislation would in all likelihood not have prevented the tragedy in LV from occurring, Sandy Hook, and other mass shootings, that is true. But that doesn't mean they don't make sense in their own right.
We still can't get them passed, and that's a problem.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Define this new law you imagine that would prevent the LV killings, the Jacksonville killings, the Colorado killings and the Sandy Hook killings. Sounds good to me! Couldn't wish for anything more!! Define the law you envision my friend.Spaightlabs said:
Holy $hit, you are RIGHT! Criminals commit crimes. That doesn't mean you never pass new laws. You also can't prevent a crime that has already happened, you pass new laws to prevent a future crime...bgebrent said:
WTF? Criminals break 100% of laws. What new law do you propose that could have prevented this tragedy?? Are you educated on all of the current laws that forbid this behavior? Help me here.

Sandy Hook was really hard to process, especially as the father of two young girls. I hope we never again see anything remotely like that, but this was pretty friggin terrible.
I just don't understand how someone could do that. Can't process it. All those people, just there to enjoy some music, none of them known by the shooter. How do you fire round after round of bullets into a sea of innocent people, for like five minutes straight? It's insane. Pure, unadulterated evil."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

You'll never stop people from killing each other. That's been going on since the beginning of time. The discussion is how you can prevent mass shootings. 500+ people shot is crazy. I've shot a full auto mp5. I could empty a 30 round mag in less than 3 seconds. Those shots I heard didn't sound that fast. I suspect that it was one of those bump stocks or trigger cranks with multiple magazines linked together. Far more than 30 shots before any pause from the shooter. Those type items that are likely bought without any background checks will likely become the focal point of debate over the upcoming months.g8golfer said:Honestly how can it be fixed? This. How do you drive a truck into a crowd in Nice and kill 86 people and injur more than 450? It's not just guns, it's people. No easy answerJohnInCarolina said:

@JohnInCarolina sandy hook realty really set in when we started sending my daughter to preschool. I have had several job offers to move to more populated city’s but I won’t cause of the crime rate. I live in small town America a county of about 5,000 ppl. Not saying something couldn’t happen tomorrow but I just prefer to stay off the beaten path. Don’t live in a bubble but I read a statistic the other day that said our town has had 6 murders in the last 10 years.

Politics should be irrelevant if you own a brain. You do. Anyone who thinks this is anything beyond a mental health issue or on rare occasion domestic terrorism, which this likely isn't, needs to reconsider. It's hard to process John but briefly. It's not anything "evil", or Satan or any other **** people assign it. It's F'd in the head mental illness. You need to understand how some sick person does this. No science can do that for us and therein lies the rub.JohnInCarolina said:

Did our system judge him to insane and not responsible for his actions and thus just sentence him to a psych ward for life?Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -
Seriously.
The weapon is of no consequence when someone mentally ill, or extremists decide to take out as many as he/she/they can. Trucks, planes, bombs, rifles, semi auto, and full auto have been used.
Those people will find a way, no matter what legislation is in place.
Our right to protect ourselves is lost when have no means to do so.
It is a violent world in which we live, and where we choose to live. I choose to do what I can, to give me a chance, against those wishing me or my family harm.
I will never intentionally be at a armed disadvantage in my home. I love my family, too much, to do so.
It will likely occur again. I hope none of us will even be remotely touched by such a horrendous event.
There are many sick asz holes out there. Be prepared.
Evade, seek cover, fight back. Survive.
It is the reality of our world.

Exactly what I've been saying. Sad the liberals think this is a point of contention.YukonRon said:Seriously.

Interesting that so many people are clinging to their 2nd amendment rights today while demonizing NFL players for exercising their 1st amendment rights.

This event in vegas is horrible and all the gun legislation in the universe wouldnt have kept this dead rat from committing the deadliest shooting in us history...nor would it have stopped hodgkinson or the orlando night club shooter -
I haven't watched the mainstream bs you apparently choose to so I cannot relate.DoubleEgger said:
