    As it is a Saturday afternoon, I will share with you all some images of standard weekend activities across this green and pleasant land;

    Southern and Western England, plus the Midlands

    The North;

    Up in bonny Scotland;

    By there - in Wales

    And finally our friends across the Irish Sea

    This is an example of how the issue is bastardized. I wonder how close the stats are on that one? Lol!
     I and everyone else on one side of the issue fully acknowledges the need for a welfare safety net. The issue is how it is implemented and what kind of incentives are in the programs. In our country, people are disincentivized to do things to better themselves. Doesn’t make sense to me other than the cynical view that some would like to keep them where they are. If that is so, I find it disgusting. I include disability in this category as well which has seen tremendous growth and grift over the last 8 years. I would rather provide more benefits to those who can work and do work than less. Those who are truly unable to work or be productive should be taken care of in full in a separate category or tier. IMHO.

    Well that's a huge relief I suppose.

    Clearly there are abuses of the welfare and safety net systems.

     But the idea of leeches being a large cross-section of society is a false narrative designed to push a political agenda.

    Im not naive.  every political faction pushes exaggerated versions of the truth.  I just wish the story of the "evil welfare queen" would die.

    We all have views that are informed by our upbringing Pete.  It's clear that yours are very different from mine.  All I'm doing is providing some context as to why that might be the case.

    John.  I must respectfully disagree. And yes, there is in fact a need for it.  Blatant abuse of the system makes a mockery of those that truly need it. Me personally, am not anti welfare. I am 100% against the abuse and exploitation of the welfare system. Welfare was never intended to be a lifelong source of income and too many folks that can help themselves take advantage of this system. Clearly there are individuals that may need it for life but, that is not who are abusing it.

    The most anti welfare people I know are those who are in work and live in the same areas as welfare recipients. They are the people who resent others not working while they pay the bill (tax). The middle classes can generally afford the tax and are more inclined to be sympathetic.

    Most people here don't regard being 'on welfare' as living in social housing, receiving in work benefits or being wholly on benefits for a short period of time, rather people whose only income is welfare benefits for the long term.

    It is, the culture there is quite different as well, with the NHS and college and university access.

    I'm sure we have folks here who know people on welfare and who are anti welfare as a result.  I should have been more precise in stating that my belief is that most of them do not have friends or family members who are or have been on welfare.  I think that tends to influence your view on things.  TIA.

    I have long lived the roller-coaster that is being an Eagle. If it isn't a relegation dog-fight it is a promotion play-off.   We did aspire to mid-table mediocrity but those rarified heights are not for the likes of us.  I doff my cap to @Eoin - that's where his team sits.

    I assume the season will not continue in this rich vein of hapless defeats.  Its not impossible, just unlikely.    Never mind, we still walk out to the best tune in the league and are the only team that does not have a vowel in the first five letters of our name.   Cloud/silver lining etc......

    I clicked agree, but need a double agree button, as I have never seen a rich tea or digestive anywhere near gravy.

    What do the poor pay for college access here? Nada. The wealthy and the working class pay full boat though.

    I agree with the second part as it pertains to yourself. You are admittedly emotionally guided on this subject.

    I live by few rules, but one is that I never have gravy on chips at home.  Canteens etc - yes, but never at home.   I once had fish and chips in a canteen, with gravy and bit of chicken curry on the side.  And a mug of tea, obviously. Living the dream, I was.

    Crouch has still got it.

    Sorry for your predicament, I don't think zero goals and zero points is a fair indication, but it's a tough league. Looks like a hard place to come back from without a stunning run of form at some point.
