A crap shoot depending on the mgr you get.  I have called before to make sure, and have been denied a price match at one location, and accepted on two others by pics on the 14 WSM and 28 BS.

Sh!t or get off the pot.  ;)

I put hardly any charcoal in and its been at 400 for 5 hours. I should have cooked something. It reminds me of my bubba keg. Way efficient.

I sprayed the cooking grid with cooking oil after about a 2 hour burn off. Looks good and seasoned now. At least until I open it up and it all burns off.

    Looks good to go.
That's the one thing that drew me in on this thing...felt line iron.  Was going to buy a BGE CI grid on the woo for the small.

I learned through the years...it's better to buy the whole grill, than a grid, for maybe 20 bucks more.  =)

@DMW -  you can just stage it inside the XXL.  Will yield a double bonus impact and SWMBO will never know it is there.  ;)

I paid $146 for mine back in June. When I found out they were $91, I called WM and the mgr said they would refund the difference. When I got there the next day, it rang up at $74! I got a refund of $76 with taxes.

Nice cooker. Holds temp well, doesn't use much lump. I didn't want the CI grid so I bought a Weber Smokey Joe 14" plated steel grid.
Doesn't like the rain though. Still cooks ok in it, but the ash catcher fills up with water. Looks like it might be coming in around the two bottom latches so I'm gonna get a tube of silicone and see if that'll help. I still need a cover though. Using a trash bag for the moment. =)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I'm thinking about adding longer legs. Should work fine as long as I can keep my dog away. Black pipe (or galvanized), not EMT. With the weight, it might be stable enough.

    Thoughts?

Ive seen the stilts adjustment. I think its a good idea if its going to be your daily driver. Its taller than my mini or mini max and as such it's a little tall on my work table. Mine will really be a travel cooker so it will live in the shed nearly all of its life. I like the smokey joe grid idea you had. Because I will use mine only a few times a year, there's no chance that cooking grid won't be full on rust for me.

Well, I had a large and a mini. My mini had gotten to be my daily driver - until my dog destroyed it. Now that I have found an affordable replacement, I expect the Akorn will become my go to cooker. Not only does it cook just as well, but it's considerably larger than my min was. My work table is a bit too high, but not terribly so. What I need is either a coffee table or some stilts. At least on the current worktable, the beast can't reach it! We'll see.

I expect you're right about rust on your CI grid. If I can find a 14" SS grid, I'll buy one. Weber makes a 22.5" SS grid, but for some season, no other sizes. The plated one is fine for now, but it'll rust too, eventually.

Yeah I think a SS 14" grid is on my watch list as well. Some of my eggs have the older non SS grids and they are rusting over now. I love CI but not the upkeep. If you use the cooker enough it stays seasoned on its own, like the one on my medium.

BTW, my dog wasn't tied to the mini. It was on a small table - too small - and when he went counter surfing, well, that was all she wrote.

Looks like the creature at the end of The Mist that shakes the Land Rover.

Do legs defeat the purpose of this tabletop/tailgate grill???
A little wind or nudge, and humpty takes a fall.

A rolling table or cart might not be a bad idea though.

This might solve the stability issue, but would create a tripping hazard.
