Just picked up a 36" Blackstone today for $120 marked down from $278.  Wally's are clearing out their lawn and garden stuff. Thanks for the heads up!
Wow that's an awesome deal on a fantastic grill.

A brickseek check in my area shows them all at $278 still. When I picked up the akorn jr yesterday I noticed they had assembled 4 36" Blackstones. I had assumed they were getting ready to discount them as they've never had the assembled ones out. My brother has been looking for one so I'm watching this one.

  • @cookingdude555 thanks.  Keep your eyes peeled.  The mobile app (along with brickseek) is the best way to track clearance prices from surrounding stores.  Each store is going to be different on clearencing out goods.

  • I paid $146 for mine back in June. When I found out they were $91, I called WM and the mgr said they would refund the difference. When I got there the next day, it rang up at $74! I got a refund of $76 with taxes.

Nice cooker. Holds temp well, doesn't use much lump. I didn't want the CI grid so I bought a Weber Smokey Joe 14" plated steel grid.
Doesn't like the rain though. Still cooks ok in it, but the ash catcher fills up with water. Looks like it might be coming in around the two bottom latches so I'm gonna get a tube of silicone and see if that'll help. I still need a cover though. Using a trash bag for the moment. =)
I saw on their website that Chargriller is now selling an Akorn Jr cover. Cute actually.

Walmart will email when it is in stock. Free store pickup.

Do legs defeat the purpose of this tabletop/tailgate grill???
A little wind or nudge, and humpty takes a fall.

A rolling table or cart might not be a bad idea though.
The legs that it comes with make it too tall for a tabletop grill. On my standard height table anyway. It's okay (I used it tonight), but not ideal. As for tailgates, I've never been to one in my life so I don't exactly care. =)

Wind is not an issue. Only my dog.

@FearlessTheEggNoob, I can't find the cover on walmart.con, just from the manufacturer. Got a link?

Had this tightened up by track 11 on Stone Sour's Hydrograd.

Nola's assessment is spot on, better quality than expected, after hearing the whiners with the handle on amazon. Lol

Q, how is this too tall?
Was referencing cooking off of a tailgate, not attending one.

It's not beyond my reach, but it's a good 8" higher than the grid on my large, and maybe 12" higher than my kettle. I'll get over it.

    And I don't HAVE a tailgate.

Found a cover for my akorn, it won't be living in the shed now:

The cover went over the larges already, just had to make some room in the middle for the little guy. My wife says one of the larges was stepping out if that red thing is offspring.

Wide awake Saturday at 4AM.  Opened up the forum and saw the post by HeavyG.  I followed the brickseek link and by mid morning we were at Wally World in Beeville putting an Akorn Jr in the cart.   It is a house warming gift for SIL and BIL.  First cook was meatloaf for supper.  Turned out great, even other half ate two slices.

Got this shot just before BIL devoured it.  Very nice smoke ring

Thanks for the links and post HeavyG.

LOL, Joan, you sound surprised! I haven't had a bad cook yet and I've been using mine for nearly two months!

Not surprise, but very impressed.  Your posts were the tipping point.  Afraid to give them a egg for the same reason you had to purchase the AkornJr. Was actually getting ready to order a barrel cooker for them, but I think they will really enjoy the AkronJr's versitlility.
They did chicken tonight and SIL emailed me that the chicken was wonderful.  I set her up with a bunch of Dizzy's rubs and of course Aw Sh*t.  Another convert =)
On next visit we will bring down some HeartBrand beef

I have no idea how i stumbled upon it, and for the life of me I can't seem to retrace those steps. It's on the WM site though, I can guarantee that.

Sounds like a good project for one of the big brain types here.

wow @focker, I thought that was a costco only kamado.  Although that looks smaller than the costco version.  The costco version is at 24" i believe.  I have a friend that has one and he loves it.

The stone $25, and cover $18, came out to $51 shipped.
$9 for shipping, not bad.  The helpful CS lady saved me several bucks by ordering on the website vs CS, different carrier methods apparently.  Just a heads up.

For $130, this is a great setup, still kind of impressed with fit and finish post assembly for a Char-Griller, and I haven't even fired it up yet.

Lemon pepper sweet heat wangs are slated for lunch.

Cool.  I believe this is the 22.  Was impressed with the fully loaded options, fit and finish, and the bamboo is a nice choice on the shelves and handle.  Hard to beat at that price.

I did a side by side burger comparison. Cooked four on the mini max, four on the akorn. They both held 400 rock steady during the cook. No surprise, burgers from both were excellent.

Yep. I cooked a spatched chicken the other day. And the butt before that. Both were every bit as good as what I get from my Large.

Brandon, you bought ANOTHER grill?! how many's that, 20? 30?

That was #13, my "Red Along" beater when camping......won't be as pi$$ed if someone jacks this.

I need to update the family portrait. Hahaha

    In my defense, lol
Douchekabobs are more aware of ceramic now, my small and custom table would be a two-douche quick grab.  I never lock it, but for the upcoming Dells trip you never know about those cheeseheads up north.  ;)

Worst case, being out $130 is much better than $600, including woo, table.
Plan on parking this on top of the picnic table.
The small is the base camp grill or daytripper.

Cooker is air tight shutting down post initial burnout and seasoning.
Held 275, opening lid every 10 minutes and not using latch.
The smokin' stone will help with that.

My handle has a little play by sh!tty design, but overall, am glad I pulled the trigger at $74.

Assembly was fairly easy and straightforward. Took about 30 minutes. Handle was a pain to align the bolts, otherwise no problems. I agree with earlier posts, this thing is more substantial, better quality than I had imagined. Looking forward to break in and first cook, maybe tomorrow.
