Paris attack: What we know about the suspects
Hannah Murphy and Michael Stothard
From leftt: Bilal Hadfi, Salah Abdeslam and a picture in a document in the name of Ahmad al Mohammad
Names and faces are gradually emerging of those thought to be involved in Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris. French police have formally identified three of the perpetrators of the deadly attacks. But media reports have identified others thought to be involved either directly or indirectly. The identities of at least two perpetrators remain unknown. One of the suspects, Salah Abdeslam (above, middle), remains at large after escaping to Belgium.

The Bataclan attack
At least three gunmen stormed the Bataclan Concert Hall in Paris on Friday just before 10pm. Two of them detonated suicide vests and one was killed by police.
Omar Ismael Mostefai, 29
One of three attackers at the Bataclan who died at the scene. He was identified from a finger severed when he set off his explosive belt in the concert hall. Like Cherif and Said Kouachi, the gunmen behind January’s attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, he was French of Algerian origin. Convicted of petty crimes between 2004 and 2010, French authorities had been monitoring him since 2010 for links to Islamist extremism.
Samy Amimour, 28
The French national from the Paris suburb of Drancy was identified on Monday by the French prosecutor’s office as one of the trio behind the Bataclan attack. He was indicted in 2012 for criminal association with terrorists plotting to leave the country for Yemen. In 2013 he fled the country, with unconfirmed reports from AFP suggesting he spent two years in Syria. In December 2014, Le Monde, the French newspaper, published an article about the failed hunt by Amimour’s father for his son in Syria.
Third attacker, unknown
The Stade de France attack
Three suicide bombers attacked the Stade de France in Paris, where the French football team was playing Germany. One attacker was reportedly stopped from entering the stadium after security staff detected his suicide vest.
Bilal Hadfi, 20
One of the three attackers said to have blown themselves up outside Gate H at the Stade de France. One passer-by is killed. There have been media reports that he fought in Syria with Isis and was French but living in Belgium.
Ahmad al Mohammad, 25
A Syrian passport in that name was found near the body of one of the men who detonated a suicide vest at the stadium. Fingerprints from the body matched those of a man who entered Greece via the island of Leros as an asylum seeker in early October. He is said to have travelled through Turkey, Serbia and Croatia on his way to Paris.
François Molins, Paris public prosecutor, said the authenticity of the passport “had yet to be verified”. Unconfirmed reports from AFP suggest that the passport may have belonged to a Syrian soldier of President Bashar al-Assad regime who was killed several months ago.Third attacker, unknown

10th and 11th arrondissements
At least two people were seen firing from a Seat at Le Carillon bar and Le Petit Cambodge restaurant on Friday evening. The same car was used in the attack on the Bonne Biere café and the Belle Equipe restaurant soon after. The vehicle was later found in a Paris suburb on Sunday with Kalashnikov assault rifles inside.
Ibrahim Abdeslam, 31
A French national living in Belgium who blew himself up on Boulevard Voltaire outside the Comptoir Voltaire café. He was involved in hiring the Seat, one of two vehicles involved in the attacks on Friday.
Salah Abdeslam, 26
A French national living in Belgium, is the younger brother of Ibrahim Abdeslam. He rented the other car used in the Bataclan attacks. He is known to have re-entered Belgium on Saturday morning, and was stopped by officers on the border but then let go.
Two other men — who have admitted to being in the car with him during the border checks — are being held by police while Salah Abdeslam remains the subject of an international manhunt.
French television reports on Tuesday suggest Saleh Abdeslam used a credit card to rent two rooms via the Booking.com website in Alfortville, in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris, in the two days before the attacks.
It is unclear whether Salah or Ibrahim Abdeslam were in the Seat alone, or whether other attackers were involved.
Others of interest
Hamza Attou, 21, and Mohammed Amri, 27
They have been identified as passengers in Salah Abdeslam’s car when it crossed into Belgium from France. They have been arrested and are being questioned by police in Belgium. A lawyer for Mr Amri told the Associated Press on Tuesday his client was being held on terrorism charges and had admitted going to France to pick up a friend. Belgian media reported that the pair are being investigated as possible suppliers of the suicide bombs used in Friday’s attacks after police found ammonium nitrate, a fertiliser that can be used to make explosives, during a search of their residence.
©APAn undated image made available in Isis's magazine Dabiq shows Belgian national Abdelhamid Abaaoud
French news sources report that investigators suspect the Belgian national planned the attack. Mr Abaaoud has been linked to attempted attacks this year on a high-speed train to Paris and a plot in January to kill a Belgian police officer that ended with two conspirators shot dead by police in Verviers, eastern Belgium. Four weeks after fleeing the Verviers shooting, Mr Abaaoud featured in Isis’s glossy house magazine clutching an assault rifle and bragging about how he had beaten western intelligence services.
Mohamed Abdeslam
The brother of Salah Abdeslam was released by Belgian police without charge on Monday. Nathalie Galant, a lawyer for Mohamed Abdeslam, told Belgian television: “He had a solid alibi: he was in [the Belgian town of] Herstal the whole of last Friday evening, on the day of the attacks.”
