@SMITTYtheSMOKER it's funny. I almost just sold it. I like the egg for its stability, but I also love toys. Stoker is just a new toy. And I like my toys to work as intended.
but no, the sky isn't falling!! -
I agree, what's life without toys. Enjoy.

fusionhq said:Disregard all my questions...I finally have it figured out...It seems that I was using the wrong Subnet address from my router. Just changed it from 255.255.252.0 to 255.255.255.0 and it works now. I also cleared everything and started all over since I had tried so many different things. I owe each and every one of you a slab of ribs for all your help. The least I can do!

I am doing my first cook now with the Stoker II. 20 pounds of pork on there and I am accessing and making changes freely at work online:
But the Pit Pal app seems to be flaky at best. Most of the time when I open it up and hit refresh, it says: "Error Communicating With Stoker". Anyone have this issue?
It worked flawlessly at home and I swear I got it connected a few times after I left home as well...... This app is useless if it can't connect and obviously the remote access is setup up correctly and is working as shown above.

While at work are you using Stoker Wifi IP address or your public IP address ?Gambrills,Maryland

Wow, I did not know there were two different ones. Sure enough, I looked and the App had I guess the wifi IP in it.
So, I am confused. What is the a purpose for the WIFI one and a public one? What is the difference?
-
Wifi when you are within range of your home network, about 500 feet from my house. I change the IP address in the Pit Pal app under setting to my public IP when I know I will be further away and usually gone 30 minutes or more. I used mine a couple of weeks ago when I had to drive from Key Largo to Key West and back, 89 miles each way and worked like a charm.Gambrills,Maryland
-
Thanks. I guess what I am asking is... What is the benefit to ever using the wifi IP then? Why not just keep the public one on.
Is wifi faster? more secure? etc.
-
More secure, not really any other difference that I know of but maybe the IT guys on here know more on the subject. Do you know your public IP ?Gambrills,Maryland
-
Yeah, I have it here fortunately, that is where I took that screen cap from above.
So the public one is more secure than the wifi version then? Because otherwise, anyone would still be able to access the public one even if you are using the wifi?

After a week with my new Stoker looking at the room temp on the probes, finally time to cook today! Here are early shots of my butt and setup. Anyone else with cooks? Feels like I'm cheating having this toy hold my temp solid wherever I put it!Lovin' my Large Egg since May 2012 (Richmond, VA) ... and makin' cookbooks at https://FamilyCookbookProject.com

Smoked 2 Butts on Friday for about 18 hours with no hiccups.
Today's Easter ham was no success in that it was so windy I could not control my temp. When the blower is installed, it leave like 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap that wind was whipping through. Anyone else have this issue?
I was trying to hold 250 and it was sitting up at like 310. -
What size egg @stompbox ? Take a picture and post, let's see what is going on .Gambrills,Maryland

I used mine for the first time today. Other than a few issues with Pitpal not being friendly, it was good. Make sure you have the right adapter and install it correct. Mjne held 350 for 4 hours, without me looking at it.

Money shot! BTW @stompbox no gap for me on my large. Cook went 10 hours and all I did was bump it up near the end to finish. Good times!Lovin' my Large Egg since May 2012 (Richmond, VA) ... and makin' cookbooks at https://FamilyCookbookProject.com

@DMW Not 100% sure but I think it was you that posted your Stokerlog here for us to have a look at your live feed. Could you please share how you did that? I would prefer to use that interface to speak to the stoker away from home.

You know what.... I just re-watched the Stoker video for install and I feel pretty dumb.I have the tapered section of the blower adapter screwed in on the correct side of the blower, but I have the taper going outward from the egg instead of inward toward the egg if that makes sense. Doh!
So in other words, instead of the door being able to gently slide over the tapered section, it was hitting it and not going any further.
That is what I get for piecing it together in a hurry just before a cook.

@FlashkaBob - I used Stoker-Web (https://code.google.com/p/stoker-web/) running on a Linux server. This talks to the stoker and then I had a port forwarded from outside to the Stoker-Web server. Stoker-Web is Java based open source and can also be hosted on Windows.
It looks like it hasn't been touched in about 4 years. I'm planning to attempt contacting the author and see if he has plans to continue it, etc.

Another way is to have the Stoker Log running on a computer on your network and then remote your computer from another location...via VNC. I do this but run StokerX app on my Mac.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

@dmw Thanks buddy. I have it downloaded and unpacked but that is as far as I got. I'll mess around with it and see how I make out.
