Used up the last bag of lump last night for our dinner of chicken, ABTs, asparagus, mushrooms and rice / cheese balls.

Headed out today to top up on charcoal from a local place that makes their own. 60 kg of lump, 100 kg of coal and 40 kg of corn for the chickens.

What do you use the coal for?
For the stoves in the house. Some wood, some coal.
Intetesting.  When I hear coal stoves I think of A Christmas Story and the dad fighting with it.  Is that similiar to your experience?
Is that a film?  The stoves are easy to use with coal, it just helps to have some wood to get it started if it gets completely cold.  We had coal stoves at my parent's house as well, I'm well used to dealing with them.

coal stoves are pretty easy to use. i lit mine in november and its still lit, about 5 minutes a day to remove ash and fill it back up. it will burn 3 days without touching it so no problems leaving for the weekend etc
Do you have a hooper fed stove?  Ours are just multi-fuel stoves, but will last all night and most of the next day on low.  Nice to have that heat when it's cold - the 2 chimmney stacks run up different sides of the house and if you keep the stoves lit, the walls are warm and act like storage heaters.
mines just coal bucket fed, a bucket a day until the temps drop below about 10f, then i load it twice. weekends i bank it high and keep the temps low. mines an insert stove with alot of brick around it, center of the house, brick gets hot and throws tons of heat after its running a few days, all doors open to the center room

@Battleborn good luck! I have spent 4 hours this week on hold for a freaking primary care visit.

If you want my advice, just go in the VA ER. I did it last year for a cough. RN walked out to the waiting room and asked if it was a joke. I said by the time I get an appt, I’ll have Pleurisy.

She snickered and listened to my lungs and got me a prescription. 20 minutes and out the door.

Luckily mine is just trying to find some educational information that I got previously. I have some great employer health insurance and have never had to use the VA for healthcare.

It's her birthday.  Apparently, the half of a dead frozen rabbit she brought home today wasn't satisfactory. She really wants my steak trimmings and potato leftovers.

Cooked up some bloody rare 93% burgers and chowed them down while growling at anyone that came near me, including the cats, which were very interested for about 2 seconds.

A rough day of chasing cats, playing in the snow and getting a bath. She sleeps on her back like this all the time. Doubled size and weight in one month. Her paws still look too big on her.
