@SGH must be a writer on Billions. Tonight they talked about bung on the tongue. Pig intestine being substituted for calamari.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Kinda looks like that Egg is being used in a dense urban environment. Is BGE saying charcoal-fuelled cookers can be used in such a setting with abandon?

Got invited to give a seminar out at Stanford. Apparently they are back to doing in-person visits now. This will actually be the first in-person talk I'll have given since the start of the pandemic. All the rest have been virtual. Anyway, now I have the fun of looking at flight options, etc. to make the trip out there."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@JohnInCarolina Trip to the Bay area. Better to be lucky than good. Congrats.
Just put your aide on the trip details.

Planning to go to a resort near Sevierville Tennessee Easter weekend. Niece is getting married. Following the electric charging routes is a bit tricky. Mobile, Montgomery, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Sevierville. Looks like the likely route. The alternative goes through West Atlanta.

So what you are saying is that you will have to get used to speaking in front of a large group of people again with pants on.JohnInCarolina said:Got invited to give a seminar out at Stanford. I've actually given a couple of talks there over the years. Still nice to be invited for sure. It's a beautiful campus.GrateEggspectations said:

As to your second remark, lol. Every once in a while my actual area of expertise (fracture mechanics) will make an appearance here. Turns out that understanding how brittle ceramics fail under thermo-mechanical cycling is useful in the "real world". Who knew?

If only BGE corporate knew what a liability you were, @johnincarolina.Was out not far from you yesterday, btw. Nice temps you’re having. Would have stopped if I had had more time.

@JohnInCarolina Yep-paid a lot of attention to fracture mechanics in my sailor days and believe it or not with baseball bats and timber. The fracture properties of maple are such that when the bat breaks you will likely end up with two pieces (and one flying into the crowd) not so with ash. MLB did a lot of studies and levied manufacturing requirements once maple became the wood of choice. There's a reason wooden ladder rungs are not made from maple.
Enjoy the trip.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Frank as it happens one of the studies they paid for was performed by the professor who taught me statics back in the day at the University of New Hampshire - James Sherwood. He moved to UMass Lowell shortly after that, where he started a Baseball Research Center. Pretty neat!lousubcap said:@JohnInCarolina Yep-paid a lot of attention to fracture mechanics in my sailor days and believe it or not with baseball bats and timber. Small world for sure. I am quite familiar with James Sherwood's studies related to wood bat properties as the whole maple bat issue evolved. Talk about the six degrees of separation...JohnInCarolina said:

Edit: Physics is physics, math is math and material properties respond as predicted. From Nuclear power plant materials to baseball bats. Waiting for BGE to replace my cracked firebox. Been over a f*cking week. Been cooking on the gasser. Don't make me buy a Primo or Komado Joe

My XL was cracked for 2 years before I asked for a warranty claim. New one is still in box in garage. Old one is in about 5 pieces. Still works.Battleborn said:

Is that at Dave and Busters? I got one of those one time and cleared out about 3/4ths of it on my own. Won't ever attempt that again.WeberWho said:The bar wasn't lying about a big pretzel.
