I only made the jury for one case, the death of a law enforcement officer.
Been on the stand as an expert witness for eminent domain well over 50 times though.

SWMBO has appeared as an expert witness.  She's also a legal nurse consultant.   The pay on court days is lucrative.

I am assuming you're being serious because of the expert witness part - but I could also take it as sarcasm as being paid for your time in a courtroom as a juror doesn't even cover gas to get there and back.  I was waiting in the jury pool one day and the first round of cuts came through.  The lady next to me was genuinely disappointed to miss out on the twelve bucks!

picked up the home sleep test equipment for tonight, dont see any way imaginable that that will stay on during the night
Been using a CPAP machine for almost six years now.  The sleep tests (two) were done in a sleep clinic under a watchful eye overnight with 33 electrodes attached.  (The techs were very happy that I have a shaved head.)
When time to get the mask I was asked, "Are you a mouth or nose breather?'  I politely told them they had all the data so why don't you tell me??  They diid.
Don't know about the overall quality of improved sleep but the snoring has been dang near eliminated, or so I have been told.
    Good luck-

would rather get the call that its cancelled, in this state im looking at a 4 hour round trip minimum, get called in the morning, not picked, sent back to the room for a 2 oclock, not picked, and released at 3. cancellations and not getting picked gets me a do over in a year. and then theres the ridiculous parking fee that the town picks up. and its been just about every year, im due again.......maybe i gotta stop telling judges they know better

Yep, in my case a deputy whose hips were facing the wrong way after his patrol car was rammed over him. I assume that, among other injuries, his back was broken.

I'm serious.  She had to drive to Biloxi the day before for prep and was paid around $2500 just for that trip where she was on the stand for maybe 20 minutes.

A friend of mine from college is a patent lawyer who used to work in DC.  He was trying to convince me to become an expert witness, in part because it can be so lucrative.  Most of the time the experts for them weren’t ending up on the stand, but the billable hours can add up very quickly on patent law suits because the experts are actually doing analysis for the firms.

He told me that one faculty member purchased a vacation home using solely the fees he had billed the firm, from one case.

In civil cases it would be the defense and plaintiff.  She worked for the defense which was a hospital.

Wondering how slow the train is moving from Detroit to Louisiana to deliver our Bronco. We’re on Day 12. Dealership has no clue where it is. So glad I already signed the paperwork on it

I remember waiting on the ship from Germany delivering my car, then the wait in port for the bureaucrats to okay it, then for the truck to deliver it.
  • @Ozzie_Isaac that is going to be a sweet spot when completed. Beautiful view. I can’t help but ask, how is that cone in the middle balancing on its edge like that?

Day 2 of the cast iron saga begins with removing the rest of the concrete from the shower.

The closest PVC is from the sink on the other side of the wall. The other PVC pipe connected to the Cast Iron under the house at left and the cast iron remaining under the footing and outside wall of the house.

I was wrong about abandoning the CI in place. As they were removing sand under Cast Iron from the original bathroom connection in the old master bathroom, I noticed the sugar sand was wet, then I heard water leaking. It was a pin hole in 3/4" copper cold water line going to the new sink.

Don't know how long it has been leaking but I do know that we pay sewer rate based on the amount of water we use. Plumber said I just saved $800 because that is what he charges to locate and repair a slab water leak.

Fixed with a no solder connector that is clamped on both ends of the pipe. Did not see the tool but it works.

PVC connected to the Cast Iron from the original bathroom.

Going under the bedroom wall to the closet. Yes that is another water line, a hot water line to the sink.

    New toilet drain line.

Toilet drain line connecting in the closet. Missing is the drain line for the bathroom sink.

Not sure what the plumber has in mind here. The slab is not cut where this sink pipe runs. RuhRo.

PVC from closet to makeup area.

    PVC going under shower wall.

Sorry I did not get a photo to all the connections here before the plumber's helper started filling in. The shower drain pipe is at the top of photo.
Pipe from makeup are comes in at bottom right and exits the building bottom left.

Not quite done. Plumber was concerned that this pipe would not line up with the exterior sewer line done previously by a different company. That work went from this point, across the lawn, a double driveway and finally to the city sewer connection on the property line.

It turned out he was right. He had taken a level to the cast iron in the original bedroom and told me that it had a very small pitch along the bedroom pipe.
This photo shows the not yet glued in pipe from the house at right and the exterior 4" pipe of the exterior sewer line at left. Hard to tell from this perspective but the sewer line is much lower. Yikes.

So they started digging out the sod and some of my walking iris's.  We were in luck. They only had to dig about 8 feet and were able to make the connection with the right amount of slope for everything to work. He put a clean out connection between the house and the sewer line, I wadded up a bunch of toilet paper in the original master bathroom and flushed it down the toilet while the shower was running. It came thru the house and past the clean out. Whew! Dodged a major bullet.

This is in the closet. It is part of what is going to be the vent for the sink and toilet. They will remove a section of  drywall from the original bedroom on the other side of this wall, run PVC horizontally from this point where the sink is located thru the studs. Then put a 90 degree elbow on the end and add pipe going up toward the ceiling. Once they add the drywall back on both sides the cavity between the studs where the pipe is vertical will become the vent. No need to go thu the attic and the roof for a vent stack.

GrateEggspectations I have a working shower, sink, and toilet this evening. I also think we are saying the same thing, just different terminology. Master Suite means a full bathroom ( Sink/s, Toilet/Bidet, Closet/s, sleeping quarters).

@SamIAm2- While I would likely have taken some photos during the entire remodel/plumb/event for potential downstream issues, there is no way I would have been composed enough to tell the saga here.  It reads like you are making major behind the scenes improvements.  Good luck with bringing this to closure
