  • Headed to a place here in a couple of weeks that has the following lineup.  The wife is treating me as I have a big birthday coming up, the old half century mark.  Deferring to the local experts here - @lousubcap and @YukonRon and anyone else - for recommendations on what I should select - multiple suggestions accepted!

If it were me I would be trying a couple of the Barrell offerings. I have never tried them but have heard good things. I’m just not the kind of person to drop over $100 on a bottle of something I’ve never tried.

The Barrell products are all very good. The Knob Creek single barrel are usually very good and is reasonably priced but 120pf might run very hot to you. The Makers Mark FAE-01 is a superb whiskey.

Early Times BIB, Russel’s 10, Knob Creek 15, 4 roses small batch select……..

while this is a massive list. It’s also very wallet friendly. Most highly sought after bottles draw $25-40 a pour or higher. Is this the whole list @JohnInCarolina?

I agree with this. You can also find these at your local booze store relatively easily.

Yeah this is a long list but it is all very readily available. That can be a good thing because if you find one you like it’s gettable. If you aren’t a barrel proof drinker, I’d stay away from them. They will blow out your palette. Stay below 110 proof. If there are certain distilleries you enjoy maybe gravitate towards another offering from them.

Personally I’d hit the barrel bourbon stuff as well and the Kentucky Spirit. I like Turkey stuff. Enjoy the special day with the special people first and foremost.

Not the whole list.  They have a bunch of scotch too, some area whiskeys, Japanese stuff, etc.  This is just what they have online, there may be others in house.

Thank you all for the recs!

As mentioned above, I would stay away from the barrel proof but if you want to go there, make it the last pour.
Don't know your preferences so there may be some from a distillery you like but have not had before-food for thought.
But out of the gate in no order, I would try the Wild Turkey single barrel 101, Old Forester 1897 BIB, Blade and Bow bourbon and if into rye the Michters single barrel rye.
Bourbon palates run the spectrum as do the selections here.
Whatever you decide, enjoy the evening as the event means an order of magnitude more than sipping brown water.  Although that is a top shelf gift/offer right there.

Edit: An after action report needs to be filed here.

Would hit the high proof barrels and the ryes. I'm not a fan of sweet bourbon. But that's me.  Don't ask me about the names....

thanks for this!    I have never been lucky enough to see a bottle of PVW in the wild and I'm sure if I did there's no way I would be lucky enough to get at SRP, but here's to hoping...

After a nail-biter of a game today I’ve fallen into something weather appropriate.

Tito’s, lime mineral water with a lime topper.  Still quite warm down here.

    Happy weekend all!

Love titos and nice knife, I've been meaning to buy a new knife but am cheap :(
Benchmade Bug Out knife.   I absolutely love them and have 4.   So light you hardly know they’re in your pocket, so sharp they could be used for surgery (at least how I keep mine by stropping etc)

Have served this to neighbours on a couple of occasions and they’ve asked if I’m trying to tell them something. The label went from a pinup girl to the current form listed below, which features more global undertones.

Wonder if it would be worth a road trip from indiana to the Distillery to see if they would honor that SRP that would be a nice birthday and Christmas present.

You won't find any of those for sale at the distillery-unless you know somebody very high in the chain.  But at least worth a phone call or email.

Traveling for work again.   Made a pit stop at a road side liquor store and the TX Hill Country has been pushing this.   New to me but thought I’d give it a shot.

Please forgive the wine glass, it was either that or a coffee cup

Got to love the attitude on that bottle and label when paired with the wine glass, lol.

    Jokes aside, how was it?

    @JohnInCarolina

Too funny and I like the irony of it all as presented as well.

Great flavor and at 80 proof it could be a session drinker.   Only thing not for me was a bit of a sweet tasting finish.   Think it would work well as a cocktail whiskey but could be a stand alone if one is into the sweet finish.

I guess it could be more boring I could be pandering this board for whiskey choices for a place your wife is taking you for your birthday.
