I don't usually roll quite this high with my adult beverages. That bottle was a gift from a former PhD student in my group, one who now manages over a billion dollars in assets for Cubist. I don't know exactly what his salary is these days but I'm pretty sure it's a lot higher than minefishlessman said:JohnInCarolina said:

As a follow-up, we went last night. Pretty interesting place out in Cary that is in fact a brewery, but has a huge selection of bourbon and other spirits.JohnInCarolina said:Headed to a place here in a couple of weeks that has the following lineup. The wife is treating me as I have a big birthday coming up, the old half century mark. Deferring to the local experts here - @lousubcap and @YukonRon and anyone else - for recommendations on what I should select - multiple suggestions accepted!

I ended up having a glass (neat) of both the Knob Creek 15 and the Elijah Craig single barrel. Both were very good, but I probably preferred the Knob Creek - just a different flavor profile than I'm used to with bourbon.
I had the blackened tuna to go with. Really nice meal."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Hard to go wrong with Knob Creek. It was a favorite of your friend Brent. The whole line up is great. Relatively affordable and available. That 15 is a little harder to find but it’s gettable. The 12 is also exceptional and even easier to attain. Many of the older heritage brands like Beam go overlooked in favor of the shiny new pennies out there. Glad you enjoyed the experience.JohnInCarolina said:

Never had any of the Barrell offerings. Saw my local Binny’s had some store picks so figured I would give it a go. This one is 113.04 proof. Made of 20% 5yr, 60% 7yr, 15% 10 yr, and 5% 17yr.

@saluki2007 - I wish I had a local Binny's
. That works out to just north of 7.5 yo. Enjoy! Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Have been watching Ben Roethlisberger's podcast and they have been drinking Coors banquet. I realized that it has probably been 35 years since I had one, so figured why not. And I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is

First time seeing it in a local store. I’d had it before and liked it. It’s different from Kentucky bourbon for sure. Worth checking out.pgprescott said:

@JohnInCarolina I’d like to hear your thoughts on it. It’s pricey and from Texas.The distillery is on the way to my buddy’s ranch. We stopped in there years ago right after they opened and neither of us really enjoyed it (for the $). Things change and they likely got better-I just haven’t bought any since our sampling years back.LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas

It’s just really different from the Kentucky bourbons. It doesn’t blow you away taste-wise but it has a bit of an extra bite to it. I’m not sure I’d reach for it all the time but I like having some on the shelf if that makes sense. I’m also three sheets to the wind at the moment so take all of this with a grain of salt.TechsasJim said:@JohnInCarolina I’d like to hear your thoughts on it.
