    Temps went above freezing today which is out of the ordinary so took advantage. Couldn't imagine a Christmas without snow, but I bet it would be nice. Make everything so much easier.

    One of the last photos I have of this boy. Unfortunately yesterday morning he unexpectedly passed away. A few days ago he enjoyed riding in the Kubota RTV while I pulled kids on sleds around our neighborhood. We miss him very much. 

    The unofficial cause of death was some type of cancer that caused an organ to rupture. 

    It's been a sad couple of days. 


    No symptoms.

    I would likely be scratching his belly right now while we have some family time in the living room. He would "force me" to pet him. This breed attaches to one human and I was his... even though I was against getting  a dog. There is a hole in my heart.

    @kl8ton - My sympathy to you and your family.  The holes in the heart are part of the bargin going in, a piece of the unfairness of life.

    Sorry to hear about this. A Bernese Mountain Dog? I am on my second Boxer currently. They seem to catch cancer like clockwork in the tenth year.

    Well that sucks. He had barely gotten to be an adult . Not that it’s easy whatever their age.

    @fishlessman, must be a scratch to the eye. A bit over a year ago my Boxer scratched his eye badly and that is about what it cost. The inflatable donuts are more comfortable for the dog and work just as well.

    His nose/cheek blew up with an infection monday. Tuesday was in the vet for a day. His upper lip was filled up with infected white puss and hanging an inch lower than the other side. Brought him in for some antibiotics, I think I paid for a facial reconstruction.

    It’s not hard to run up a $1200 bill at the vet these days. It’s money well spent for a pup who is always there for you.

    The other side of the coin is that more owners lately are putting the pets down. Place is right next to me and it's pretty sad seeing a certain truck pulling up to the back door several times a week

    Regrettably understandably. My current Boxer is 10.5 in an expected life expectancy of 9 to 11. Boxers are cancer magnets. I will keep him as long as he is comfortable but I won’t do canine chemotherapy when that time comes. My previous Boxer lived to be 10.3 years but the last 6 months she was miserable with seizures when ever she fell asleep. I was working then and she would come out of it scared and not knowing where she was for a while. The only thing that they could give her didn’t reduce the seizures but it did keep her stoned. The vet finally admitted that it was likely brain cancer and that nothing more could be done for her.
