We have F-16s out of the National Guard and A-10s and various heavies out of Davis Monthan, and have Apaches, Chinooks, and Blackhawks out of another nearby base Army airbase.Botch said:
So am/would I. I know its possible as I've lived it for several years. And if I could have it manufactured and marketed, I know it would sell; but as mentioned above I'm sure the cabal have established their monopoly (manufacturers, big-box stores and distributors) to maximize their own profits.Eggdicted_Dawgfan said:@Botch I would be curious to know what fertilizer could be put down only 1 time a year and be able to keep the yard looking “best in the neighborhood “? I would definitely jump on that train first thing tomorrow morning.Btw, I was just in your old stomping grounds last week at Hill. We were building a chamber to encase the robots that blast liquid metal onto the landing gear parts to restore them. Very cool place. Got to see a lot of cool things including the F-35’s playing around.
Cool that you got to visit Hill. My last four years I was stuck with the "MILCON manager" job, a far corner used to shove questioning troublemakers into to shut them up. Several of the projects I was monitoring were to build up the F-35 Maintenance campus, for which much of the funding was diverted to build some fence near the mexican border, my last year.
I don't live under the F-35 standard flight path, but it rings right around me just NW of the runways. I miss the F-16s, they were whisper-quiet compared to the Lightning II's...
The F-35 fly through occasionally, and my God, can you hear them from about 200 miles away. I love it when they are in town, but also glad when they leave. Somebody missed the requirement flow down on noise.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

For interest’s sake, here are some views of Canada’s National Capital - the Ottawa-Gatineau area. I catch these vistas on my bike ride to and from work. Got a flat on the way home today, but I was well-prepared, right down to nitrile gloves to prevent dirty hands. Not a great day for that, as it was the hottest June 1st on record since 1872. 33.4C without humidex.
Front and centre is Canada’s Parliament. On the far right is a big, stout white building is the Supreme Court of Canada.
The impressive beige building on the right side of this photo is the Museum of History, or as it used to be called, the Museum of Civilization. The view from the other side is better. I regret not catching a shot.
I feel it can be easy to take one’s city for granted, and so here I am. -
Just ate the most amazing apple ever.
"Cosmic crisp" . OMG, if you see them, give them a try. Texture of a honey crisp, but sweet with a tart finish. Just freakin' amazingI would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

We tried it few months ago, huge, loved it. Google says it a cross between Enterprise and Honeycrisp.Ozzie_Isaac said:Just ate the most amazing apple ever.

Over 40 years in the making/breeding, saw a blurb on (iirc) 60 Minutes about them. Finally saw them in the local grocer, I had just purchased a bag of HCs or Fujis, so waited until they were gone. Haven't seen them since, locally. Gah!Ozzie_Isaac said:Just ate the most amazing apple ever.

Costco had boxes of 8 cosmic crisps for a pretty long time. Well past fresh season, and they held pretty well.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
I am stunned, because most breeding/cross-breeding is done to increase size, increase pest resistance, improve shelf life, improve color. Rarely do they aim to improve taste. These ones are next level. Like eating apple concentrate. I am a die hard honey crisp fan. However, these will be definitely purchased when I see them. I actually only bought them because they were $0.97/lb. So glad I did.Botch said:

Interestingly, since apples are picked only in a few months in the fall the majority of apples go into special low oxygen, controlled temp storage so you can still get "fresh" apples in the grocery store over the months well after picking season.Legume said:Costco had boxes of 8 cosmic crisps for a pretty long time. They weren't at Costco the whole time. They held pretty well in cold storage. Some get a mealy, almost dry mouthfeel to them in that environment. Some hold up better than others in storage, I was glad these seem to.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Actually, the permanent collection is mostly, if not all(?), from Canada and focuses on Canada’s Indigenous Peoples. You yourself may be older than most of the items featured. 😛CPFC1905 said:

I believe that cosmic crisps were developed because honeycrisps are very fragile. they require careful picking, packaging, and transport. They were looking for a way to compete with the honey crisp taste while being more durable. From my understanding, honey crisps were so expensive because all required to keep them bruise free. This is from my memory of talking with growers here in my area. Also instead of the traditional larger apple tree, growers are converting (at least around here) to skinny stalk like style trees by pruning them differently. They are supported by high tensile wire. I'll look for a pic.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Edit:
This is the idea but around my area, there is thousands of acres of trellised apple trees.
High density.

@GrateEggspectations thanks for posting those pics. I guess I must have always known Canada has a capital, I just don't think I've seen it before. I blame the lamestream media and whatever books they allowed in my school libraries growing up. It's very beautiful and very smart to put that on the water, much easier to defend.
In all seriousness, commutes like that with beauty along the way always served me well by taking some of the edge off before getting home to my family. Even better that you're biking it.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -

Thanks for that. Yes, Ottawa is small (about 1.3M including surrounding areas) and has a reputation for being sleepy, so it’s not always on everyone’s radar. It’s far from perfect, but I am also reminded how lucky I am to live here.+1 on the bicycle commuting. I’ve always found it was a good mental and physical outlet. You just have to watch some of the drivers pretty closely. -
