  That is quite a sighting. I swapped cars in my mind (new pulling old) to see if the picture would make more sense, but I think it’s just as strange.

  It’s chemistry that’s temperature dependent.   Battery technology will evolve, and the batteries can be climate controlled (they are somewhat already).   Or maybe that extra juice is lost heating them, trade off with efficiency decreases from cold.  I wouldn’t buy an electric vehicle if I lived where it gets super cold and I had to commute far.
