What’s that coming over the hill?
No, it’s not a monster it’s the PL. Huzzah and hooray - it’s been too long. You, I, nobody has any clue about what state the teams are in and how the World Cup purdah has affected them. My guess; cagey first matches and then the congested fixtures unravel, which will be a leveller. Coming up on the rails is the January transfer window madness plus several clubs in managerial turmoil, too.
Boxing day;
Brentford v Spurs, the hosts had proved hard to beat whilst treading water with a series of draws, but they are in a lofty 10th not by luck. Spurs had been short of the consistency to stay top 4. 1-2
Palace v Fulham; level on points and at the better end of the table if not reliably so. Tough game and more than likely a draw, but a win potentially puts Palace 7th and that rarified height is normally sufficient to blunt our performance. 2-2
Everton v Wolves, Super Frank under big pressure while the visiting team are bottom but with a new manager, so oddly in the better shape. All 3 results very possible; so 0-1 just because.
Leicester v Newcastle, the Foxes finally functioned, pre-WC, but Toon are in imperious form. Big Bren and his gawjus teeth were banking on Gareth Southgate falling on his sword, so he could slide in to the England job. That hasn’t happened so he’ll be grumpy. 1-2
Southampton v Brighton, new man at the helm for the Saints but a fairly low wattage appointment. Can’t see anything other than the filthy Seagulls taking the points. Which makes me sad. 0-2
Villa v Liverpool, run of the mill away win. 0-2
Arsenal v West Ham, the Hammers’ performances have indicated construction from chocolate and not iron of late. The Gunners look they will just carry on truckin’. 3-0
Tues 27th
Chelsea v Bournemouth, two points from the last five games for the The Chels’ has thrown in to doubt the media’s proclamations that Potter is the future of all football. Brighton bias? Surely not. The Cherries have a new young buck at the helm. You’ll know him from hits such as; Vegas Golden Knights. It’s none other than impish Bill Foley that has embarked upon his next long term venture. Meh 0-0
Man Utd v Forest, the hosts are about the be the second team this month to be demonstrably improved by the absence of Ronaldo. Their guests received the least surprising festive gift ever, an easy three points from Palace. Remains to be seen whether they are fundamentally PL material though. 2-0
Weds 28th
Leeds v Man City, the champions are 5 points off the top and realistically can not lose again if they are to win it again. This also assumes that Arsenal don’t implode or Newcastle don’t every game from now - all 23 of them. Both equally possible. Leeds are still hit and miss. 0-2
Don’t call it a comeback, I been here for years.

Yep. We made that move right at the start of the pandemic. It’s saved us a few times already.johnmitchell said:

For those of you unsure of how to convince the spouse to buy a generator, the easiest move is to first purchase lots of expensive meat and put it in a freezer. Then the argument is simple: if we lose power that’s hundreds of dollars of meat that might have to be thrown away. #ProTip"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

I’m smiling as I read this because it’s right on the money. We currently have a standing freezer and, at the time of a long power outage this past spring, we also had a chest freezer. Both full. Didn’t have a generator so were bailed out by family who lent us two small generators and housed some of our meat during the 10 day outage. The generator purchase came a short time later, as did the offloading of the chest freezer. 🙃JohnInCarolina said:

Just completed a test run of the outdoor attire since the Xmas dinner got audibled a few days ago to the 24th. Prepped the L&S BGE's along with the drum smoker during Wednesday's heat wave. All open fine and no issues with the ceramic caps. Fire and forget tomorrow-monitor from indoors. Do have to transport the output so I have to pace the adult supervisory beverages. All good and good fun!Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
