@nolaegghead interesting method, what’s the benefit of hanging the forklift on the wall while doing this? Broken horizontal bubble on your level?
I kid, in a better mood this morning and 3.5 miles into the day before 6am. -
assuming you are grinding the back side where the forks rest on the frame.. @nolaegghead? perhaps a little math could have saved some time? Or shim the bent one and get a measurement so you know what to take off the straight?

never thought about buying forks before but i think they are supposed to be interchangeable if you get the right size for your truck. for example

I did the math. Using the radius of the pivot point to the bottom bracket and the number of degrees of change I needed to make. Problem is I don't have a mill and the contact surfaces aren't exactly flat or even from years of wear. 2xradius x degrees off/360

These are ITA class III b forks (min 5000 lbs) - 8 foot long. I have been looking to buy some 4 foot forks, I'm just cheap. The 8 foot forks make it challenging to navigate tight quarters, while that's fun and all that, I'd rather keep short forks on it. The short forks aren't as thick too.fishlessman said:nolaegghead said:Trying to straighten the forks. Measure, remove, grind, reinstall, measure, repeat. Turns out you can make short fork from long forks.nolaegghead said:

Actually, I think these might be 7 foot. Not there right now to check.

7ft forks are still long enough to make 4 foot forks.nolaegghead said:Actually, I think these might be 7 foot. Not there right now to check.
Since you like equations, here is one to help

short forks and a pair of fork extenders would be the way to go. fork extenders are easy to make and easy to remove, its just a channel iron and a piece of flatbar. there should be chain clips up higher on the truck to support long loads as well

These forks are HEAVY AF. I don't want to turn expensive long forks into cheap short forks. I would like the best of both worlds and just have short and long forks. Extenders are nice when you have short forks. I might even fab some when I get the short forks.The long forks are sweet for reaching over all kinds of sh*t I have on the ground, moving lumber mostly. They're also great as I can put the man-basket thing on and still have enough fork space to load up crap. Or get some reach when I'm using the forklift as a man-lift.Fortunately I've been lucky where I haven't stabbed anything or had a serious accident with the long forks....I did take out a projector but that was me being stupid. (I really need to get up and see what kind of damage I did to it, that was over a year ago).______________________________________________I love lamp..

Friends, we are on the bend before the home straight or wherever two thirds of 400 metres is because we have 12 games left, roughly. A glance at the PL table affirms a sense of symmetry with 2 teams in title contention and 2 hovering near the trap door of relegation. The remaining 16 teams are evenly distributed along the ‘player budget’ axis which generally predicates the final league position. The concepts of skill and determination were recognised as a risk to revenue and therefore eradicated long ago.
We start tonight; Southampton v Norwich, the hosts have surged to 10th and accrued sufficient points to withstand an inevitable tailing off of form but stay up. Mission accomplished. The Canaries, despite recent good form, just look out of their depth. 2-1
Saturday;
Leeds v Spurs, a couple of calamity clubs collide in crumbling condition. Wheels are departing each corner of both wagons - imagine a spider jettisoning it’s legs, but this legs are wheels and the spider is a wagon. 1-2
Brentford v Newcastle, meh 0-2. The Bees are crumbling and the dirty money Toon are climbing free. Meh, again.
Brighton v Aston Villa, the filthy Seagulls finally failed to draw last week and got whacked - yay! Hard to tell what’ll come next and Villa are a curate’s egg at the moment. Come on Stevie G, sort it out. 1-1, though.
Palace v Burnley, one of the season’s least glamorous games but there’s a sub-plot. The visitors have left their traditional late wake-up to the season very, very late and are now on top form. The Eagles clicked and scored four mid-week, albeit against parlous Watford. Banana skins aplenty. 2-2
Man Utd v Watford, as hit and miss as Utd are they can’t hold a candle to the rotten faltering Hornets. Run of the mill home win; 2-0
Everton v Man City, Super Frank Lampard is working hard to lose that prefix because the Toffees remain flaccid. City, stung by Spurs last week, will not hold back. Could be messy but might be just a narrow away win as Everton go all Custer. 0-3
In the Championship Stoke welcome Bournemouth who are in prime form and hungry for points to secure promotion. The Potters less so and my guess is they’ll rest key players in advance of their trip to Palace in the Cup mid-week. @Eoin and I have a side bet on that match and after using some of my contacts to hack his phone, you really want Palace to win that.
Sunday;
West Ham v Wolves, vital test of each others’ mineral here for 5th or 6th place. I feel the hammers are petering out a tad while Wolves will find a way. 1-2
Elsewhere Liverpool and Chelsea will battle out the Carabao Cup. No, I don’t know either.
