I finished up the fork straightening last night.  It's dead on now.   Also worked on my cabinets until I realized I need to grab some dado blades from the store so I have dado blades at the shop and at home.

    Fixed it for you.

@Ozzie_Isaac If you get a "cheap" Rolex (under 5K), all the people in the know will think - look at that guy that could only afford the cheap ones.  Everyone else will be torn between thinking you're rich AF or it's a fake.

You're better off buying a cheap fake of a good Rolex, not too fancy, not gold colored.  Bonus points - it won't hurt when you lose it and take that money you save and spend it on horse feed.
I think you would have to be in the know to look at anyones watch
Everyone knows "Rolex" is an expensive watch.  Everyone.  And fakes are so good that even an expert would need to examine one to tell (and then it would be quick), not simply done by seeing it on an arm, fleetingly.

The thing people don't appreciate is... a Rolex is an investment.  The best ones appreciate in value.  This is something that can be a family heirloom.  It's the sort of thing that your dad's friend from Nam shoves up his ass, for years, so the Cong can't get to it and rob you of your birthright.   It's the sort of thing you hand down to a son, so that he can give it to his son, so that your grandson can finally pawn it some night when he's going through oxy withdrawal and really needs that fix...
I was with you until the ass vault portion.  Yes, they are investments.  I could, if I were so inclined, flip it for a 60% profit in less than 48hrs.  However, I just lobe the watch and plan to wear it daily.

I pause shows to check out watches.  I have a real problem.

I have a family friend who is a jewler. He would buy his wife a Rolex every so often. She would get so damn embarrassed if you mentioned anything about it. Truly embarrassed where she didn't like wearing it.

Hahaha.... I'm moving my wood shop to the big shop so this won't be a problem anymore.  Incidentally, I have three dado sets, problem is they're not distributed properly.

Must just be me. I don't look at anyone's watch. I judge a person on their reputation and character, I don't give a shvt if they have a unicorn horn in the middle of their forehead and drive a pinto. I am probably the opposite, if you rolled up on me with in a range rover and a rolex I would figure you have good credit.

  • That said, I don't think @Ozzie_Isaac is buying a rolex as a status symbol, I get the feeling there is more to it than that for him.

We're all different.  Taken to one extreme, Sherlock Holmes profiled people using every clue at his disposal.  Even if you don't use superficial clues, other people do use them on you.

I'm not a slave to fashion, and I don't care what other people think about me that don't know me, but it can be fun to f*ck with people by manipulating superficial clues.  Buy a mullet hat and walk around town to see what I mean.

I quite wearing a watch as soon as I discovered my cell phone has the time. 1997 or so? A watch was just something to get hung on machinery and alway had a band that was either too small or too loose.

This is true.  The newer fakes ~$600 cannot be distinguished without inspecting the movement or the dial under a microscope.  They are that good.

One of my favorites and the new 3235 movement is a significant step up. Hope you get on the fast list- have heard of many waiting 2+ years.

Yep, seems like there are limits to types of fashion and cycles where each is in and out. Hip huggers, bell bottoms, etc.  Some enclaves that are either firewalled from the rest of the world or choose not to give AF do not change.

I am hoping.  We talked to the AD for about an hour on just watches in general.  Movements, styles, brands we like.  Even talked about a favorite of mine, G-Shocks.  The AD was really cool and extremely knowledgeable.  He has been in the business long before the boom, and could tell he just enjoys watches. No matter the outcome, I enjoyed the conversation and will be back in a few months when they get their new Tudor display.  Black Bay 58 is pretty sweet too.

Agree- love the navy 58 but would be a tough decision as I really like the color of the pelagos in person.

Also liking the ST2 omega right now- automatic so takes out the winding of the normal speedy. Looks great on a brown leather strap.
