no
college turns a person into a critical thinker. And critical thinkers tend not to cling to superstition. They tend not to cling to tradition solely for the sake of it.They tend to be more intelligent, to question things, to think for themselves, and to look for information before forming an opinion
they tend to dismiss those people who tell them what they should believe. These people end up having a truly liberal (wide, encompassing, expanding) view of things, and generally accept that things can be improved with a little application of effort and intelligent (critical) thought.Educated people tend to be more liberal. Not because they are indoctrinated (see: conservatism and religion; fascism), but because they have been taught to think for themselves
a central tenet of conservatism today is to NOT question your leader. To NOT question religion. To NOT question anything that someone in authority tells you.College, science, liberalism,… none of those things are threatened by being questioned. From within or without.Your opinion of science does not have any impact on the scientific method.

I think the best and only responsible course of action for anyone who believes any of this is to not send your kids to college. It’s not worth the risk of them not agreeing with you in a few years. In fact, if they haven’t leaned to read yet, consider pumping the brakes on that too. -
So if you're a liberal and you disagree with a conservative they are automatically a moron but if you're a conservative and you disagree with a liberal they are destroying the education system? Did I get that right?
How about this, Not every conservative is a moron, and not every liberal is out to make your kids a government worshipping satanist. I know plenty of liberals that appear to have double digit IQs and I know plenty of conservatives that are some of the wealthiest, smartest people In any room they walk into. People need to quit attacking people based strictly on their political leanings and accept that there are morons everywhere. That's the problem today. We don't call out the morons even on our own sides.Rockwall, Tx LBGE, Minimax, 22" Blackstone, Pizza Party Bollore. Cast Iron Hoarder.

I went to college and I had a lot of very stimulating conversations and experiences that spanned a broad swath of society, including folks from *gasp* other countries.
My core beliefs and moral compass didn't magically shift. If you are so weak in your convictions that just hearing an alternate view can sway them, then you absolutely need to hear other views. The truth is that most faculty in the liberal arts and social sciences that teach courses where politics is actually discussed will tell you that the kids tend to show up on campus on day one with fairly liberal views, on average.
And those same faculty will tell you that, in their own lectures, they tend to argue from whatever perspective is actually different from the majority of the students in the class. So many of them actually end up arguing and defending the conservative view, in practice. Why? Because no matter what the students come in with, taking a different perspective is the way that you develop critical thinking skills.
The objective here isn't to brainwash, it's to develop critical thinking skills. That applies across the board, whether the discipline is political science or economics or mechanical engineering."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -

Sorry, back on topic.
Zuck and others have handed out megaphones to anyone and everyone and it has allowed some to weaponize the morons, as you say.I do think we have a better informed general population than we did 30 years ago, but unfortunately the quality and veracity of the information has degraded into garbage. And that still doesn’t improve critical thinking skills. I I could argue it probably degrades it as you don’t have to figure anything out today, you can just shop for the information that matches the picture in your head.Love you bro! -

The closest thing we have in this thread to some kind of blanket statement was the one made about college faculty. And... meh."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -
FWIW , as someone who has hung out with @nolaegghead and @JohnInCarolina, and a few others here, politics never come up
( maybe in a joking manner or random decals on vehicles ) wouldn't trade those times for anything....I never graduated high school LoL, but put three kids through college no problem, cash moneyVisalia, Ca @lkapigian -
