BAM Blast Postponed

Dear Eggheads,

  I regret to say that those of us who organize NCBB have decided that it is best to postpone the event this year.  We did not make this decision lightly and are generally far from happy that it has come to this.  We know many of you have made flight and hotel arrangements, and we hope you are able to recover those funds.  It seems that at least the airlines are being understanding given the circumstances.  

  We just felt as though we did not have a choice given the way COVID-19 is developing.  We would all feel terrible if any of you traveled all the way to Salisbury, NC, and managed to acquire this along the way or at the event itself.  The reality is that we all need to be doing our part right now to minimize our social interactions and try to slow down the spread of this thing.  We also think there is a good chance the park will end up temporarily closing within the next month.  

  BAM Blast will go on.  We will find another date to hold this event in Brent's honor, and do our best to keep you all posted once we have settled on that.

    Dang, sorry all but seems like the right thing to do. 

    My friend’s father passed away last week and his funeral is this Sunday. Unfortunately many have had to cancel travel plans to attend for various reasons including all the hand shaking and hugging in a large gathering in close quarters. While some think people are overreacting, which I can agree that buying enough toilet paper to last a year is, it’s time to think about those who can really be affected by this. 

    I take a biological medication that suppresses my immune system so I cannot take this lightly, even at 38 years old.

    Any thought to some kind of online event?  I know it’s not the same. But might enable others who weren’t able to join originally to participate and those that were still have some fun?

    My hotel room will be easy enough to cancel. Actually talked to the wife today about this with everything else canceling and told her that I might have to skip BB this year. Hopefully things settle down later in the year and we get a makeup date.

    There may be an online site set up already.  And we could get an address to mail pull tops to.  This week has made an impression on me that I drink way too much.  I’d like to cut back, but it’s for a good cause.

    A downer for sure, especially given that BB was to celebrate Brent. But postponing is the prudent thing to do. 

    Count me in for a contribution. I also need to know where to send all the pull tabs I started collecting since last week. Apparently, one can imbibe a fair amount while on vacation.

    That is stepping in , owning the deal and exercising what it means to be following something sorely lacking in the top levels of gubmint leadership. , "When in charge, be in charge".  Tough but right decision.

    This is obviously secondary to the overall public health concern. 

    But Dan Nicholas park advertises that they don’t offer refunds, only date transfers. Has anyone reached out to them about a refund, considering the situation?

    I usually drive to Sioux Falls to help my Mom with spring planting, cleaning, water softener salt and anything else that comes up, last weekend of Apr/first of May.  I was planning on hitting this BB, then driving up to SF to do this.
     
    Yesterday I sent my Mom an email, seeing if things would work if I hit her place middle of Apr, then go to BB; I wasn't comfortable with meeting/eating with folks from all over, then going up to Mom's (tough German stock, I've only known her to have the flu once, she's never had a flu shot until her Dr. made her, 5 years ago, when she started cancer treatment (multiple mylenoma) which she's had, and beaten, 3 times now.)  But, she is 87...
     
    Now, I won't have to worry about it.  Thanks again, I think you did the right thing.
