I won't lie. The  thought did cross my mind. I checked myself when I was trying to figure out if we really needed a hole that deep.

I think you would hit water in Houston and Austin would be 3” of dirt and 6’ of limestone.

I’m slow to answer the bell, but you’re right, this is right up our alley.

Do you think Dan Nichols State Park?  I don’t think we could go that deep without hitting water in NOLA.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

True.  I sent this link to my son and he was enthused about doing it in the neighborhood greenspace behind our house.  When I mentioned the limestone and the need for a lot of jackhammer work - and how that would attract too much attention from the neighbors, he replied "We'll pull an Andy Dufresne and time our jackhammer strikes with the sound of thunder..."

The good news about the limestone is that we probably wouldn't even need to line it with bricks...

Yeah.  I have to admit that seeing that text from him referencing Shawshank warmed my heart and made me feel like a good father... despite the fact that I never made him biscuits from scratch (@20stone)
