@bgebrent as to the number of guns I think you and @JohnInCarolina both make good points, but on the point of the guns are already here, that was the case for Australia and England and other countries that have outlawed guns (the comdedians clip I posteted)
also, to all who’ve made the point that I started this thread too soon, I apologize for being uncouth. It wasn’t my intent to disrespect any of the victims or their loved ones.
Anyone familiar with me on this forum knows Im not usually the one to start a thread like this, I just hate that these tragedies have become the new normal
i hate that I have to scope everyplace I take my wife and kids for the nearest exit strategy- I hate it that nothing/next to little is being done and I hate it that something like this will probably happen again much too soon
protecting American lives should be bipartisan
i posted the clip because I believe there’s power in humor and thought it was worth sharing to those who hadn’t heard it“There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.”

Brother, making a case for the US being anything like Australia or England and others regarding eliminating gun ownership is farcical. Read the amendments. Recount early and modern history. It's not conceivable nor rational.Hans61 said:@bgebrent as to the number of guns I think you and @JohnInCarolina both make good points, but on the point of the guns are already here, that was the case for Australia and England and other countries that have outlawed guns (the comdedians clip I posteted)

Your post was uncouth given the comedic entry after such a tragedy. I appreciate your follow up. You cannot legislate anything to prevent mentally ill people from killing. Whether by automobile, knife, lawnmower or #2 pencil. Changing gun legislation and believing that will change behavior of the mentally ill makes me think someone believing that is mentally ill.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -
Again, we pretty much have majority support in the US around universal background checks, getting rid of several loopholes, etc.
Such legislation would in all likelihood not have prevented the tragedy in LV from occurring, Sandy Hook, and other mass shootings, that is true. But that doesn't mean they don't make sense in their own right.

Show me the science! Re read, correct. List the background checks that would have prevented the mass shootings in Sandyhook, Jacksonville, Colorado and LV. You're deceiving yourself if you think the fed can fix this John. Doesn't matter what damned law you pass.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -

@Hans61 thanks for the video. I don't need to hear from some Australian how to run our government. We heard it from a Kenyan for the last eight years, and that didn't seem to improve things so much other than f'ing up our healthcare system and giving our kids crappy food at school!

Big reach. Huge reach. And this “majority” reference. Not buying it. Sounds like a internet blog to me. The LV shooting was done by a lunatic that broke the law. I’m struggling with how new laws would have helped...just means to me he would have broken new laws.JohnInCarolina said:Again, we pretty much have majority support in the US around universal background checks, getting rid of several loopholes, etc.

Never been high John. Any chance you recognize the reality that no legislation would have prevented this? I've not heard from you on the mental illness issue and it's importance.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

Statistically something like 68% of laws are broken by criminals. Since that is the case, apparently no new laws should be passed?4Runner said:

WTF? Criminals break 100% of laws. What new law do you propose that could have prevented this tragedy?? Are you educated on all of the current laws that forbid this behavior? Help me here.Spaightlabs said:

While I am for background checks and restrictions on "military" type weapons, I agree 100% with @bgebrent .
These people are mental and want to inflict harm on as many as possible. If not by shooting(guns), they would find another way. Such as pressure cooker bombs, driving vehicles into crowds, etc. The stricter gun laws and background checks are nice and can't hurt to enact, but finding a way to improve the recognition and treating of mental illness and the cause is the primary solution.

Holy $hit, you are RIGHT! Criminals commit crimes. That doesn't mean you never pass new laws. You also can't prevent a crime that has already happened, you pass new laws to prevent a future crime...bgebrent said:

It’s a touching subject no matter how you look at it. Ppl need to be vetted before they purchase any firearms but like Brent said you can’t fix stupid. Crazy ppl will do crazy things. I will say when I go to larger city’s I always carry a gun on me and I have been in several situations that I was glad I did. Never had to use one but just the piece of mind knowing I could get to it if I did.

The injury toll here takes the debate to a whole new level. 500++ people. That warrants serious conversation.YEMTrey said:While I am for background checks and restrictions on "military" type weapons, I agree 100% with @bgebrent .

I do find it quite interesting when a white guy is a shooter, the narrative is mental illness. When it's a black man, they are thugs. When they are Middle Eastern, they are terrorists. -
Define this new law you imagine that would prevent the LV killings, the Jacksonville killings, the Colorado killings and the Sandy Hook killings. Sounds good to me! Couldn't wish for anything more!! Define the law you envision my friend.Spaightlabs said:

Honestly how can it be fixed? I watched videos of the shooting online and it put chills on me. I own a AR15 and several other guns but don’t know what we can do to fix this issue.
