This is a terrible problem. I'm not sure that pharmacies offering Narcan without a prescription is the answer.
I am thankful that I don't have any personal experience with this problem.
I hope that anyone with this problem gets help before it's too late.

My point was that your chart shows one thing, OD growth.

I agree @GregW. This has also not been a problem for me or any of my family. I am blessed, and I know it, but I know people in the community that it has affected.

again Ill start with I don't want to be this guy, but if you think I have not battled addiction, you are crazy! I have the most addictive personality that I know. Am I lucky? I don't think so. I think I Just decided stats important in life.

Why would they call Oxy Hillbilly heroin? Oxy was expensive it was the drug of choice cause it wasn't heroin. The green 80mg were $80 a pill back in 2000 when I was in college and I watched buddies shoot a couple a day. Maybe oxycodone that you are referring to but I can't imagine anyone shooting those?

I lost my son to heroin. I lost my Godson to heroin, my ex wife was an enabler, and got caught up in the scene as well. I lost my best friend, the father of my Godson, to a grief stricken suicide due to the loss of his son, his name sake, to heroin.
This event is a very sad, ugly story, that was just as mind blowing the further I got involved. It actually got attention from The FBI, and Homeland Security. I was able to help in the apprehension of the scum POS that sold this poison.
Long story. Cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars, my home, everything.
I have vowed to fight this. I do what I can. Everyday. Every MFing day.
Dipwads like Nate are clueless.

The number of deaths has more than doubled over the past three years. US population growth isn't anywhere close to that.

Ok @MaC122 this was my happy place, where I come and hide from the world where I live. Where people like to play the victim. And where I spent the majority of my career as an undercover narcotics detective. Risking my life, my life that I love and preserve, the life that provides for my family, after the service that I dedicated to my country's defense, to preserve the future for my kids. I spent the past years of my career watching children die, watching people suffer, and worst of all watching people capitalize on others misfortune. I know what it is to be a first responder. I know what it is like to see "normal people" fall into the spiral and follow it to the ground. In my career I have seen my peers succumb to "addiction". (I'm not even gonna go into my feelings on that) All I can say, is as a first responder and a person who has watched what heroin can do, There will always be something, and there will always be victims, love your children, pay attention to everyone, and if you feel someone slipping, speak up, slap them in the face, and let them know that you are there for them. Other than that, people are gonna make their own choices, and if you think they really don't know what the risk is, they do.

Again, I should not have crapped in my back yard, but whatever, it is what it is.
I'm out, and will be back tomorrow to learn from everyone else's BGE experiences. If I sound douchie, its because I am passionate about what I do. Sorry.

It was called that because if you lived in SE Kentucky, it was a huge problem. Mobile pain clinics were normal. People living on assistance had access to this stuff. Crushed into powder, cooked with other opiates, and shot up.

2007-2013 it barely moved. Just saying I know Oxy was the drug of choice when you see that big spike in the beginning of your graph. I know actions were taken to stop it but I'm sure something else has taken its place on the pill side. From what I saw with people I knew as soon as they couldn't find or afford Oxy it was straight to heroin. I would be interested in seeing the numbers just on Ocy I would bet it has dropped a decent amount.

Nate, if you are coming from the narrow angle of a Narc, you are selling yourself and everyone else short by limiting your view to a specific subset of the drug user population. Putting addiction in quotes further proves how moronic that thought process is.

OP, Pain meds have clearly worsened the heroin epidemic. Pill Mills sped up the epidemic and shutting them down, while necessary, is exacerbating it even more.

I think many here would benefit from reading the book "Dreamland" by Sam Quinones.

I would too. I know it had to be significant. In my mind, Heroin is a WMD, and it is so plentiful anywhere you want it.
My Beautiful Wife and I are in our children's back side and their friends back side everyday about this poison. I work with local schools and organizations on awareness. The more you know the better prepared you can be.
