I've heard that PVW is an excellent marinade for the chicken you cook on your Big Green Egg.

PVW MSRP is extremely reasonable. Sub $275 for a 23. The 10 year is 79.99

@ColbyLang - You are correct but it has been close to 20 years since I saw it at MSRP (any version).  In the late 1990's you could always find the 10 and 12 yo on the shelf.  15 yo around 8-9 months of the year.  The 20 and 23 were only good for about 5-6 weeks sighting.  Then the great export to the remainder of the US and overseas took hold and the distillers have never looked back.

Agreed @lousubcap, baby brother was at Costco 4 years ago. Had a 23 sitting on the shelf. He bought for $269. Turned down an offer of $3400 for it last week

It’s going for 5 grand on the secondary. He’s in no need to sell it. It’s in the bag, tags still on it.

But they swore they weren’t selling the bottles on the secondary market. I’m sure we can take them at their word for that, I mean they showed such honesty and integrity doing their job on the State Liquor Commission.

I was able to score a bottle of PVW 23 in 2014 for $300, MSRP at the time was $250. I was ok paying a 20% premium as it was a small mom and pop liquor store that always treated me well.

Haven’t been able to find even a whiff of anything PVW or BTAC related since.

After all my years of searching, I have never even seen a bottle of PVW of any version.   Should be renamed Yeti or Chupacabra.

Make sure he occasionally rolls it so the cork stays moist.  Otherwise it will dry and crack and the bourbon will oxidize.

sorry, I think it was the Heist series, and Bourbon King episodes.  These guys were steeling Buffalo Trace distillery bourbon and selling it on the black market.

The VA ABC opens up its first lottery for PVW next week and they are offering quite a few bottles (of what I assume are some of the "lesser" varieties) up for grabs. The second batch a few weeks later includes just ONE bottle of the 23 year old.

The people that buy those bottles of 23 year PVW - how many of them actually ever crack it open to drink any or is it more like a "hold on to it just because" collectible kind of thing or do most who buy one hope to just make a wad of cash at some point in the future?

I don't drink much alcohol so if I win I'm pretty sure I'd just turn around and sell it. Or maybe just marinate some chicken in it. :)

PVW 20 yo is the oldest i was able to buy and that was a good 12 years ago.  It is long gone but D-I-L is quite creative and turned the bottle into a small table lamp.  I see it every day and will never see it in the wild again.
That's the market and I never saw this extreme bourbon growth explosion coming.  I figured the curve would start to flatten out around 6-7 years ago and stabilize at a new plateau.  So much for my insights.

BTW-some interesting bits of data regarding brown and clear spirits over the past 50+ years.  It was back in 1968 that distiller's inventory reached 8.7 million barrels. With the ups and downs in brown spirits (and the domination of the clears) it took 51 years to reach a new high bourbon mark of 9.1 million in 2019.  At the close of 2022 there were 11.4 million barrels in inventory.

    Enjoy whatever you pour!

yetis aren't rare at all, but they are equally overpriced.
