I was in Costco today, saw full, prime packers for 3.99/pound. I bought one. If nothing else, my chili itch will get a scratch.

I'll check my Costco! Even after consuming what feels like a lot of our whole cow plus half a cow - the freezer looks like all 1.5 cows are still in there.  Keeping it full saves money on electricity!

That's great news.  Maybe that clown who got booted off the forum will finally be able to afford one!

Chickens (whole, young birds) were $4.99 a pound!  I hope and pray they don't come out with "cow flu".  I can resist over-priced chicken, but I would be intolerable if beef became scarce and expensive!

I wish someone could explain to me why beef prices came back down so much, when gas prices haven't.
    - Did truckers finally learn their place and accept $16/hr?
    - Did ranchers finally learn their place and accept less?
    - Did our exceptionally wet winter result in overgrown pastures/beef prod?
    - Are tri-tips now being trimmed to bi-tips?
    - Are spare ribs now graded as necessary ribs?
    - Did Tyson et al CEOs/shareholders collect so much money, so fast, they've already paid off their '22-model-year yachts?

    So many questions...

All while diesel is still going up.  That's the index people should be watching over 87 octane.  This country's logistics / supply chain, and infrastructure  construction and maintenance all run on diesel fuel.  We all proved we could work from home and not burn gasoline, in 2020-2021.....but still takes diesel fuel to get you everything you need to live.  99% of the things you have in your reach or sight currently were on a diesel truck, train, or plane for far more many miles that any other fuel.

In the past when gasoline prices have shot up (2005, 2008, etc), diesel remained below that, and fairly steady.  How the hell it shot up higher months ago, and has stayed there even as gasoline dropped last month.  It's cheaper to refine and it's not like we're using more of it all the sudden (in fact, gasoline usage is down, so that means more petro for diesel.)  Makes no sense unless I just answered my own question.  Scares the hell out of me.

We sold 20 1.5lb packets of burger for 5$ a pound… that took some pressure off but we have another half scheduled for end of July. The brisket is trimmed and thin but they are always good.

I seem to recall, a few years ago, that the sulfur emission requirements got much stricter, and refinement costs for diesel shot up, that may be it.  Too many brain cells ago, I'm not sure.

Just heard on the radio diesel hit an all time record in prices. My commutes have also told me a lot of folks are commuting again. Just wish the would stop running into each other.

Yes, today it is the highest it has been by me.  $5.25 per gallon.  Low fuel light came on and I found a small station still at 4.99.  Wohoo!  Sad that I felt like I hit the jackpot.  40 gallons later and I was on my way.  3 vehicles filled and left the next pump over as diesel trickled in to my tank.

In the city here in Louisville, I have seen in some instances, that it has a 15-20 cent premium, over the prices in the more rural area. Commonwealth-wide the average is lower than here in the city. I get notices from the folks that provide the company cars, of my spending higher prices than the average found, in the commonwealth.

    I totally disregard those.

Had a brisket and grilled cheese sandwich while stuck in an airport in Dallas. It did NOT suck. I will be making these in the near future.

American cheese with aged smoked gouda, definitely from the flat, grilled thick sliced Italian sweet white bread.

$3.99 per # on Costco prime packers in Louisiana as well.

Let’s not get into economics in the brisket thread….true inflation should be closer to 30% compared to where it’s being stated. If the commodities market were allowed to properly drive it, very few of us would be able to afford anything let alone briskets and diesel

Isn’t that what a free market economy is all about? Of course I’m not fine with it. I couldn’t live in a 30% inflation scenario very long…..but that’s what food manufacturers are seeing. 30%.
