Are you seeing the slow-down only on boot-up or across the entire operation of the iMac?

Mostly on the boot up but some on general performance. But there’s an update, it has gone to puter heaven, no boot up at all. So I am about to head out on the hour and a half drive to the Apple Store. Posting will be limited to the iPhone for a couple of days.

Edit: I didn’t see what I wanted at BestBuy last night.

Edit 2 unplugging and replugging seems to have worked but I will still go replace it today while I can access the hard drive.

if it has a hard drive, replace it with an SSD and it will give it new life

Base model iMac, it's all one sealed unit. I want more than 8 gb of RAM also and the new chip sounds good. I imagined that I would have to replace it this fall anyway, too many IOS updates.

Is a 6 year old Mac running Ventura (13.x)?

I believe so, all updates up to date anyhow. Replacement will have to wait until tomorrow, had a car issue that I had to resolve first.

Ripe for a post but I will refrain...good luck with getting it all sorted out.

You want the M processors anyway so i don't blame you for upgrading.

Yes, you can update the SSD on those, fwiw.

Well I got the new iMac this afternoon at the Appl Store. I even got a bonus, a roofing tack in my right front tire. I imagine that it will be flat as a pancake in the morning.

I guess I now understand the verbal I got at my last Apple Store visit: "That'll be $OMG dollars, plus tacks".   :|

I had to stop at 4 different air machines so I know it penetrated. On a side note did you know air machines take credit cards now?

Yeah when I saw the markup from 8 to 16 gigs of ram I settled for just upgrade to ROM and 8 core processors plus Apple Care. There goes nearly a half month’s income.

Those new iMacs are pretty slick.  Kind of amazing how thin they are these days.

Hope the tire thing proves to not be too much of a PITA.

Thanks, like many newer models it doesn’t come with a spare but with a compressor. I just have to get a mile to the WallyWorld service center tomorrow.
As to the iMac the old one was 6 or 7and was the second one. The dog now nearly 9 knocked iMac the first off the computer table at less than a year old .

Unfortunately I know this all too well. Had a nail in the tire on SWMBO’s Explorer in December and also went to 4 different air machines since I couldn’t find the tire attachment for my compressor. Those machines are highly unreliable. I bought a small compressor/jump start box for emergencies.

Good luck with the new MAC

We keep jump starters and air pumps in all our vehicles.  Car doesn’t have a spare, no room.  And not run flats.  But you get a pump and can of slime!  Good luck, muthaflippah!

The last 2 times I had a credit card get skimmed was those machines.  Wouldn’t even think to be on the look out on those.

Btw the air compressor included with the car only operates if I sit inside with my foot on the brake.
