Looking for an F1 Labradoodle in spring of 2023. Want a more calm dog than an Aussiedoodle unless I am wrong about them. Need company for my Boxer’s last couple of years. Going to be at Dollywood Easter weekend.
Find out the lineage of the lab parent. Some hunting lines are not calm, they may not run around as much as aussies, but they can be on alert constantly.  We went from a lazy family lab to one of these.  Still a great dog, but they need a lot more work.
I might be able to deal with the energy level. But they have to be trainable and not shed.
Both my Aussies are super trainable. They are cousins and their personalities are completely different.  One is very mellow and just wants to please. Minds really well, great with horses, dogs, and people.  Protected my wife from an idiot who didn't know how to handle his german shepherd.  My dog still doesn't trust german shepherds anymore.

The other one is an absolute loon. He has energy for days.  When he gets real bad, we take him out and run him for about a mile.  Full sprint.  That will usually slow him down till evening time.  Outside of our property he shapes right up.  Minds super well, tracks, follows, and obeys.  I take him pretty much everywhere I go.

One note, if you get a larger breed, I recommend keeping them intact until at least 2.  The bone growth, head size, chest, and over all joint development will be better than the 8-9 week people seem to recommend.  I have an A to B comparison and it is pretty significant.

  • How sociable are they with other people and dogs? My niece had a mini Aussie that was a lifetime one person dog. I have a large extended family, two of which have pet allergies. That’s the reason for the half poodle requirement. After the Boxer trainable is the other big thing.

My mini Aussie is fiercely loyal when my children are around. No one she doesn’t “know” or like is allowed. When they aren’t home, she’s friendly but guarded. Trick is to socialize it very young and very often. We got ours in the beginning of Covid. She only knows us. Couldn’t really socialize her

Both my Aussies have been taken everywhere since they were little.  They are loyal and protecive, but not aggressive.

They do not like to be petted by people they do not know, but they will sit still and let people touch them.  Sometimes the younger one ducks his head and backs away.

We have large parties at home and they are fine with people, but will slink off when it gets to much.  At night when the house is asleep, I wouldn't want to be a stranger.  They can bark very very loud, ruffle up, and stand their ground.  My son has learned to make sure he is up if his friends stop by late.

I only have a leash on them so others don't get worried.  When they are "working" they never leave my side unless commanded.  I had a run in with a real **** once freaking out about my dog not on a leash.  He was yelling at me while his toddler ran into the middle of a bike race.  My dog just stared at him, same as I did.  I will guarantee both of them behave and mind better than 90% of the kids I see.  Sit, stay, and come.  The older one has waited for 45 minutes at a rodeo while I was working in the arena and helping a friend.  He never moved, even as horses, dogs, tractors, and people wandered by.  The younger one is good for about 3 minutes tops.

We were at a farmers market and Cruz was sitting by my wife.  A lady walked up behind us with a younger german shepherd.  Cruz sat there with his goofy smile he always has.  Suddenly the German Shepherd lunged at my wife from behind.  Cruz stepped in front barked once, and and puffed up (no leash).  The shepherd proceeded to spin around and drag the owner around in a circle before she could get it under control.  She started to yell at Cruz, my wife, and myself.  The lady whose stall we were at told her to knock it off.  Said she was the one with the out of control dog who lunged, and Cruz did just what he was supposed to. Said she was lucky Cruz stepped in front because her out of control dog was going to bite someone.   My dog didn't chase the Shepard and he didn't bite the shepherd, but he still put it in its place.  A few other folks saw it and backed us up.  The uppity **** left with her Shepherd all in a huff.  Cruz went back to sitting with his goofy smile.

Mine have zero prey drive.  They don't chase other dogs, animals, cats, etc.  They love to play and "herd" things, but don't chase.

I had a Merle Aussie named Tige as a kid when I joined the Navy. My uncle had a dairy farm in Oregon and he took the dog when I joined.

His milking barn was on one side of a very busy road, his pastures were on the other side with a tunnel underneath.

Tige immediately took to herding his cows to and from with very little training.

My uncle was never without an Aussie again after that.

Does it matter where your degree came from?    Sure you may pay more here than there.

Do they teach science differently at lower tuition educational facilities?    I sure hope not

I went to a state school on a full ride because at the time I was graduating the Ivy League school I got into wanted every penny of my father’s salary for tuition.  $25k a year vs zero was a pretty easy call.

Now I teach at an institution where the sticker price for tuition is roughly the cost of a Maserati.  The reason I know that is because half the kids come from families who can afford every penny of that sticker price, and some of them even drive  around campus… in Maseratis.

All of that is a very long way of explaining that I am fairly well positioned to answer your question as to whether or not science is taught any differently.  And the answer is *absolutely not*.  We do not teach science here any differently than it is taught 15 miles down the road at the flagship public university, or 30 miles in the other direction at State.

Gotta be a low end model Maserati (I hope an annual price comparison) as I saw the MC20 (first spotted in the Exotics thread) Maserati base price $217K in a show room, tricked out at $310K.
Now the Ghibli may be closer to the total annual high end college cost these days as when I was pricing college out 13 years ago all the top schools across the country were within around $2-3K of $50K per year.  I know it is much more painful now.
Why the tuition and fees prices have blown up over the past several decades with respect to inflation is a whole different discussion.  The feds and their college financing largesse was a major player in the game.  At least that's my story.  FWIW-

We all know what happened with sun prime mortgages and over lending.  Same thing would happen but even worse if it was setup the same way.  Bad loans, but you can never run or hide from student loans can’t even bankruptcy out of them.

I can't get out of this text box. I was picking up honey jars with the 4 runner and rolled the back window down to let the warehouse worker (older gentleman) have his way with my golden, Lou. He was rubbing my dogs face on his, baby talking, swiped his eye boogers, hugs, kisses.... I was standing off to the side and the whole time Lou just stared at me.

We’ve developed a culture where people are told they have to have a 4 year degree. We don’t have a viable trade/apprenticeship culture any longer like exists in Europe, so we have people going because they want their ticket punched and we have made funding it easy (bad loans).  I’m not a fan of cash giveaways, but I know we have a lot of people in financial trouble because the student loan industry is half-predatory.  It needs to be fixed from the other end, but we need to also find a reasonable path to some relief for those mired now.

It is very predatory.  In highschool, it was a requirement for my son the fill out all the scholarship and loan docs.  When he came to us and asked for a bunch of financial information, we got involved.

We reached out to the school and the teacher and they tried to explain how giving all our financial information was a good thing, and we could get loans and money to pay for school.

It was a complete information grab and setting our son up for unneeded loans.  In the end, they waived the requirement, but it was eye opening that they start preying on highschoolers.

Does anybody make a router lift with digital readout these days?
I've seen one on EweTube, but I believe the guy designed/built the system himself (his shop was eye-popping, very creative and talented).

I've seen add-ons like this (which is only $50):

Surprised there isn't one using a servo motor and keypad/dro to raise/lower it and not have to bother with a manual wrench.
Not sure how much that would buy you, there's still no way to zero out how far into the collet you slide the bit/cutter.
I've recently been using a small set of machined bars, using them to set depths of my tablesaw blade; I'm at the point where my sense of touch is more accurate than my eyesight.   :s

Doesn't matter how far you put the bit into the collet. You can set the readout to zero at any point just like using "tare" on a digital scale.
Yep.  Btw I have that exact setup in the pic
