I have too many coffee cups but yeti has some of their mugs 25% off and free shipping... why not. Got the 14oz, not sure how long they will be “on sale”.

An at home combi-oven would be pretty damn cool. You should buy one and report back :)

My old briefcase record player stopped working so I opted for a nicer Audio-technica AT-LP60X. No bells and whistles, just spins and sounds great. Shown here is an album I received for Christmas: Sturgill Simpson "Cuttin' Grass vol. 1". I've already pre-ordered vol. 2.

Hard to beat Analog / Vinyl. Enjoy..,

My kids just gifted us the same one (but came with a Bluetooth speaker) + a bunch of albums, some new but several old classics.  So I started looking at older amps.  And speakers.  And a heavy table to put it on...  It seems I have a decision to make re jumping in.  I’ve noticed pretty quickly that an album side used to seem a lot longer than they are in reality.  I assume that’s mostly me getting progressively used to full CDs and now streaming.

Thanks for the reminder about this artist. Put him on and am enjoying it.

I tried sharpening the old metal miter saw blade and it was marginally better.  Bit the bullet and picked up a new one.

I have my mezzanine project coming up....just waiting to see what steel prices do.  They are (*&^%^&* outrageous right now.  I probably need around 3 tons of steel.

    Thoughts?  I'm thinking about buying.

I got mine with the second batch in the latter part of October last.
My first experience with a steam injection oven. It's pretty cool. The bagless sous vide feature is legit. I've done naked chicken breasts a few times and can tell no difference between the output from the APO or bagged from a hot tub.
You may want to hold off for a while longer. Some folks have had a few problems - cracking water tank, fogged up oven door/window, some buckling of some internal metal, and a couple other things I'm forgetting. I haven't had any problems with mine but, for a variety of reasons, I've only been able to use mine a half dozen times to date (that should change in the coming weeks tho).
Anova is aware of and acknowledged some of the problems and say fixes are afoot. They may have already addressed some of the problems in current production runs - dunno.
In case you weren't already familiar with it there is a subreddit - r/CombiSteamOvenCooking where a bunch of APO users hang.
Another thread with a few APO users you may want to read is over on the pizzmaking forum - https://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php?topic=64925.0

You'll be able to see my posts in either of the above places - they'll be one of those without any pix. :)

Construction lumber is also currently, ridiculously high here as well.

A combi oven would be a lot of fun. Not sure you’d make anything you can’t already but who knows

i got a furnace today. It’s about half the size as the old one. Next time they’ll just install a zippo lighter.

Global warming eh? Hope you have good luck and it burns less gas.
  • So I was about to pull the trigger on the oven that @ColtsFan bought...literally online.

Then I thought, why not check craigslist again.

So I did.  Found this one, brand new, for $800.  Asked SWMBO how much cash she had while I was on the phone with the lady.  SWMBO gave me the stink eye.  Anyway, long story short, it's in our living room and I'll put it in tomorrow.  I plan on baking some cookies tonight and I don't want to deal with breaking in the oven (factory smells).

Couple I bought it from bought it new, recently for some investment property where the new people wanted to put their own stuff in.  These people had a house in a gated community that was worth easily over a mil.  I guess losing a grand on an appliance was meaningless to them.  Very nice couple, chatted for a while.
Nice score. It’s amazing how much new stuff you can get new on the classifieds. I almost always check them for just about everything that I decide I will be buying, just in case. Both my Yetis and my Anova still had the tags on them when I picked them up “used.”

My beloved Panasonic plasma died so I bought a new telly. Sony No Baloney. An XBR49950H.
Too bad!  The Panasonic Plasmas were the best panels ever made.  I have one still hanging on.  After calibration it was phenomenal.  I have a newer QLED from Samsung that is amazing too, but not as accurate as the Panny.
Agree, My Panasonic Plasma is 10 years old still going strong.

Agree with you both.  My Panasonic Plasma continues going strong after 12+ years.  It will be a sad day when it gives up the ghost.

I have 2 as well and cant even look at a replacement LED.

new oven score!  that's a deal!

@Gulfcoastguy me too!  the thing is rated something like 96% efficiency so i suppose that's a good thing.  the old one sounded horrendous the past few weeks. also the old humidifier had broke.  my house is much more peaceful now and i'm looking forward to not throwing static sparks to everything i touch.

I put an entirely new HVAC system in my house around 14 years ago.  Bought all the equipment on eBay new.  Including a 97% efficient gas furnace.  Ducting on the effluent is PVC because it's so efficient there's not much heat in the exhaust.  But the furnace therefore generates condensation, so had to drain that.  Put everything in myself.  I'm a cheap bastard.

Can a homeowner make their own gas connections in LA?

even if it were allowed by code, I would imagine there are homeowner’s insurance requirements. Or the utility company.

If there were ever a fire for example, having made the final connections one’s self might undercut any claims.

    Just wondering.

that's awesome. i call it frugal, not cheap! and you've got some mad macgyver skills to supplement.  someday, if we ever build a house, we will have simplicity and storage space.

    Good question.

Because this is an indelible record (theoretically, because....the internet), let it be said that I hire licensed HVAC people to connect up all my natural gas appliances.

my original install put the outlet and inlet right next to each other. it's in a corner. i have to prop a plastic board between them, or else on cold days, i have to reach in and clean the frost from the inlet. the installers yesterday forgot to fix that problem.

what i did with the kerosene monitor is took a bent plate and leaned it over the opening creating a warmer area to vent and the plate stops the cold wind off the lake. works down to minus 20 f now but any colder and i have to address the issue with a stick. that monitor is a miser, about 100 gallons lasts a couple years

The guys who installed our new gas furnace a few years ago misidentified the intake and exhaust pipes to the wall. Wasn't a big deal as they hadn't actually connected the exhaust inside the furnace enclosure. The supervisor who came out had a colorful string of adjectives to describe their intelligence and parentage.
