Wondering if testing rate and population density were taken into consideration.

they changed the metrics to show higher numbers, 7 day running averages for new cases to weekly case counts as an example. in mass the least dense areas have the most risk.  the counties circling boston are mostly the same but essex county has lower cases and lower first shots. im in maine half the time so i watch that as well, the most risk are in the unpopulated areas. new england hovers around to 90 percent and higher first dose count

its interesting that some of the least vaccinated states are some of the safest places right now looking at the covid maps
While I would love to claim that, just look at the pattern of variants outbreaks. Northern states are first the Southern states come 2 to 3 months later. It all has to do with climate, Northerners cluster inside in the winter and Southerners in the summer.

i can see it even just looking at counties in the same state up here
That's just the effect of population density.

I am not an anti-vaxer but it seems crazy that the second Pfizer booster is only effective around 8 weeks.  Do we need to get a shot every two months to be protected?

It is what it is.  So many people worldwide are infected the mutation rate is high, unfortunately.  We will get better at this science thing, you were just born too soon.

I started listening to that in my shop yesterday, but was interrupted by the air compressor and tool noise. I made a note to listen through again.   I like Osterholm, he cares about people and is very pragmatic and experienced.

@lousubcap - I realize that we tend to lose the sense of urgency about any issue as time moves forward. I have noticed that my post about these weekly podcasts have not been made in a timely manner and are rarely on the same day as posted on the CIDRAP website. I will keep posting no matter who is marking the post with dislike for the very reason you posted.

Yep it's going around.   I know as many people who've caught it in just the last few weeks as I ever had before.

I went to the Commissary today, to refill my larder/frig/freezer; first time in quite awhile.
Not sure what's going on anymore.  The gate guards had no facemasks, nor were they a requirement in the Commissary (groceries).  Yet the entire engineering, and the maintenance, complexes were pretty much abandoned, no parked cars whatsoever.
The guv'mint may have declared this Friday off, part of the holiday weekend, I don't know.  But I don't really understand what's going on right now.

From the "study": "The cause of this trend is explained herein using the "Foegen effect" theory; that is, deep re-inhalation of hypercondensed droplets or pure virions caught in facemasks as droplets can worsen prognosis and might be linked to long-term effects of COVID-19 infection. While the "Foegen effect" is proven in vivo in an animal model, further research is needed to fully understand it."

None of the article 32 references mentions this single, "proven in vivo" animal study.

Nor does this study mention what type of masks were in use in Kansas at the time of the study. I would expect some research on the size of hyper condensed droplets passing thru all available masks used during this study.

I think it’s a fairly questionable study, and I have never heard of the journal that published it.  I’d take it with a hefty grain of salt at the moment.

Just wondering if the creator of the Florida Department of Health Covid-19 dashboard, Rebekah Jones, will at a minimum receive an apology from Governor DeSantis. Edit - removed WikipediA reference.
