Paying exactly $2.00/lb for HSS up here today. Also waiting 2-3 weeks for delivery of basic structural shapes/plate. Shop down the road needed a larger order of 1/8" 44W (A36) 4'x8' sheets. They were told maybe January. Deliveries are long and prices are extremely high, but everyone still seems to be spending as we are much busier than normal

one of my customers paid over 500 dollars for a 10 inch flexitallic gasket for a boiler, nothing fancy....its insane out there

Is it really?  Based on what I've read, it's about the same.  But if you have a link to a source indicating otherwise, I'd be happy to take a look.

Anyone else catch that an episode of the CIDRAP podcast got pulled from YouTube because the algorithm determined it was peddling medical misinformation?  Osterholm talked about it in the most recent update.

The podcast was of course doing the opposite, and actually commenting on medical misinformation and disinformation.  They’re appealing it, but it sounds like the brain trust at Google has to work a little harder at this.

61 is the one that had been pulled I believe.  He talks about it in 62.

They had appealed the decision, so maybe someone at Google HQ realized the f-up.

This got my curiousity up; I had based my "deadlier" assessment on several interviews with front-line workers, and the fact that Delta is infecting a lot of kids.  
But I haven't been able to find hard data on the death rate of Delta vs. the earlier variants.  Because I'm a news hound, I'll post any that I eventually find/see.

If it is the same lethality as the previous version but it is more than twice as contagious, doesn’t that mean that it is potentially twice as likely to kill people? At least in the unvaccinated and not previously infected remaining population? 

On a side note the family knows a person who has been infected for a few days, a cop. With the exception of my nieces 6 year old the immediate family has been vaccinated or previously infected.

I've seen estimates as wide as "more than twice" as contagious, up to "1,000 times more contagious", on the news.  Sadly, so many vulnerable people have already fallen to COVID, so the remaining population is "a bit" more resistant.  I also know that testing in this country has fallen by the wayside; have 10% of all Americans been exposed to COVID?  50%?  90%?  We have no idea.  
No idea where we'll be, as a nation, this coming Thanksgiving;  we'll see.  
 
And, once again, I'm so glad I have no kids.  :(

Fatality rates are based on the percentage of infections that turn into deaths.  So the starting point is people who are infected, not the entire population.

Your point isn’t wrong by the way, it’s just not what the fatality rate means.

if your a non vaxer and test positive with covid and asked how do you feel and your answer is i feel fine....no symptoms. then the next day you ask again and the answer is...alot better than yesterday...................

Not sure it would really have an impact.  Folks who haven’t gotten this yet probably aren’t going to be motivated by higher insurance costs.  It might move the needle long term once we get into annual boosters, we’ll see.

I’m starting to think that the only thing that can really make a dent in the near term are employer mandates.

went to pick up meds at the drug store and the vaccine lines are back in mass.  whole families lined up from teens to grandma. have only seen one in the store in months
