I'm betting that Delta variant info from the CDC is what has caused Moscow Mitch and many others do an about face in the past week or so and start urging everyone to get their jabs.

350,000,000 people in the US, roughly.
Less than half are fully vaccinated, at this time.
I've read that 30% of all Americans will refuse to get the vaccine.
The fatality rate for the earlier COVID variants was 2%. We're told Delta variant is much, much worse, and affects kids.
350M x 30% x 2% (best-case scenarios) still equals 2,100,000 additional deaths.
Two caveats here:
1. 2% is probably too conservative, and the final number would be much higher,
2. We have no way of calculating how many folks have had the virus, without knowing it, so the final number could be much lower.

Anyone else catch that an episode of the CIDRAP podcast got pulled from YouTube because the algorithm determined it was peddling medical misinformation? Osterholm talked about it in the most recent update.
The podcast was of course doing the opposite, and actually commenting on medical misinformation and disinformation. They’re appealing it, but it sounds like the brain trust at Google has to work a little harder at this.

They had appealed the decision, so maybe someone at Google HQ realized the f-up."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -

This is not the case. While the delta variant is more contagious, it is less deadly than earlier strains.
But I haven't been able to find hard data on the death rate of Delta vs. the earlier variants. Because I'm a news hound, I'll post any that I eventually find/see.___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

If it is the same lethality as the previous version but it is more than twice as contagious, doesn’t that mean that it is potentially twice as likely to kill people? At least in the unvaccinated and not previously infected remaining population? On a side note the family knows a person who has been infected for a few days, a cop. With the exception of my nieces 6 year old the immediate family has been vaccinated or previously infected.

No idea where we'll be, as a nation, this coming Thanksgiving; we'll see.
And, once again, I'm so glad I have no kids. :(___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

Your point isn’t wrong by the way, it’s just not what the fatality rate means."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -
